Submissions for this week’s challenges open on Monday at 12 midnight and close on Wednesday at 10pm ET. Voting will then open immediately thereafter and close on Thursday at 10pm ET. The winners, as always, will be celebrated on Friday.

Hot Spots
My dog has had a hot spot for the past 10 days and now we are moving to round two of antibiotics. This particular lesion is in her hind leg crease, an area that gets very little air exposure. While it’s much better than it was, there are two smaller spots that are still raw and a bit goopy. It’s also very hot outside today and my house is another hot spot since I have to keep my windows open because my son decided to make ramen in the microwave without adding water and, well, the kitchen and family room still smell like smoke. So I’m having two bad kinds of hot right now. Why don’t you submit some hot mostly true stories to cheer me up!

It was a dark and stormy night
No, it really was. The weather took a sudden turn for the gloomy last night and we were buffeted by horizontal rain. I spent my morning checking windows and doors, dealing with leaks, and contacting the builder to fix seals (hooray for wonderful building warranty laws!). I feel like that’s quite enough responsibility for one day and I’m now snuggled under a blanket, my snoring little dog wedged between my leg and the end of the sofa cushion, a steaming cup of tea next to me. It seems like the perfect conditions for writing, right? Right. Look for me on the grids this week. I hope I’ll see you there too.

Prompt Up!
Prompt Up is our mandatory weekly writing prompt for the fiction|poetry challenge! Here's How It Works!
This month, we’re deviating from the path a little. Both prompts are still mandatory, but, instead of having a word or phrase that you must use verbatim, you have an emotion to convey through your writing. This prompt is a good challenge to see how well you can show, rather than tell emotion.
The first prompt to incorporate into your story, a photo prompt, is this image by user:5229086 at pixabay. You can access a downloadable version of the photo by clicking on it.
The second prompt, from YeahWrite Editors, is to use the following emotion: remorse. Remember with the emotion prompt not to use the word itself in your story. Instead, try to convey a sense of the emotion in other ways; show, don’t tell.
Poets: Use the photo prompt, write a poem conveying remorse, or write an ode (or any combination of those three).
