Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!

Writers Need to Talk I'm the stuckest of stucks in my writing. I have two major WIPs: First is a memoir I'm supposed to be editing. Second is this thing I've dubbed The Fiction Project (TFP) because I don't know what it is (or maybe I do, but I'm scared to say it out...

Cheesy opening line goes here It's National Grilled Cheese Day. Which I celebrated by having half my grocery delivery lost in transit, including the cheese. Writing's like that too sometimes: we think we know where we're going with a story or essay, but we might end...

I found a poem in my clothes hamper yesterday So maybe you've heard that it's National Poetry Month. To celebrate I've committed to writing a poem a day in April. This is the first time I've ever blocked out a specific time every day in which to write, and it's...

A Time to Not Write I’ve missed you, YeahWriters! I took two weeks off for a once-in-a-lifetime whitewater rafting/wilderness camping/hiking trip in the Grand Canyon. I brought several journals, certain I’d knock out 10,000 words toward a literary journal’s prompt...
YeahWrite #313 Weekly Writing Challenge Kickoff
So, You're a Writer? Earlier today, I was volunteering with some people from my Day Job. One of them, a woman I don't have occasion to speak to very often said to me, "So, you're a writer? Do you have a book or something?" Now, I do marketing, social media, and blog...

cough. cough. cough. The only thing worse than having bronchitis for two weeks is trying to edit what you wrote during those two weeks. One hit of cough syrup and every defense I have against overblown metaphor, word overuse, and over.. you know what, I was gonna do a...

Go for the gusto! "Be passionate and move forward with gusto every single hour of every single day until you reach your goal." --Ava DuVernay I will admit, I've been so distracted for nearly a year that I feel like I can't even remember what my goals are. I'm not the...
