Is this thing on?
Hello! Just making sure you can hear me. I’ve got a ton of things to tell you and I don’t want you to miss a single thing.
September is all about journeys. We’ll be talking about the monomyth, or hero’s journey, for this month’s focus on fiction. And for the poetry slam, we’re heading across the world to take a look at tankas. Come back on Tuesday when the fiction|poetry grid opens and read all about them.
Don’t forget we’re going to Long Beach Comic Con September 12-13. Are you making the trip? Come find us at our booth and be sure to sit in on our panel, The Future of Digital Storytelling.
If you’re up for a detour, I recommend you stop by The Only Living Boy. You may even want to stay a while. Author David Gallaher and illustrator Steve Ellis have created a magical world for you to explore in this gorgeous comic. We’ll be interviewing David the week after Long Beach Comic Con, and Steve is graciously providing the prizes for our on-site microstory contest.
Moderation returns September 20
You heard me. We’ve had a nice long vacation, but it’s time to go back to school. Sharpen up those No. 2’s and get ready to bring us your absolute best. You may want to brush up on our submission guidelines before the bell rings.
Meet our members
Yeah write is a 100% volunteer run organization, and we couldn’t do what we do without the support of some amazing members. Why don’t you swing by and see who they are? While you’re there, give them a big thank you, or maybe a hug. And if you’re so inclined, consider becoming a member yourself.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
New to yeah write?
Welcome to the best place on the ‘net for writers who blog and bloggers who write. We are thrilled to have you join us. Whether you are ready to jump in with both feet or you would rather just dip in a toe for now, we hope you stay around. There is room here for everyone: writers, readers, lurkers, and fans.
We’ve got three competitive challenge grids — nonfiction, fiction|poetry and microstories. Take a moment to review our submission guidelines and then check out our weekly writing challenges. Got a question? E-mail us, tweet us, ping us on Facebook, or visit our online community, the yeah write coffeehouse. You can learn more about yeah write in our FAQ.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]
Bring us your personal essays and creative nonfiction!
The nonfiction challenge grid opens on Monday at midnight EDT. This is the best place on the ‘net to showcase your best writing. Make us laugh, make us cry, make us think, and above all: make us care.
Is fiction more your thing?
The fiction|poetry grid opens on Tuesday. Grab a mic and join our monthly poetry slam, or check out our new focus on fiction! The coffeehouse is the place to go to keep up on these special events.
This week’s ultimate question: Is there anybody out there?
Answer this question in exactly 42 words for the microstory challenge, or use it to inspire your submission to the other competitive grids. The microstory challenge opens on Wednesday.
Tips for your microstories
This week’s question requires three elements for a good answer:
- Where is “there”?
- Is there anyone there?
- If so, who?
Please note that we are looking for more than just a yes or no in this week’s answer. Take a few minutes to consider the three elements above and make sure you include them all in your 42 words. It’s a little tricky, but I have faith in you, yeah writers![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]
Winners’ round-up
In case you missed them, you can find last week’s yeah write staff picks and crowd favorites all laid out for you on Friday’s winners’ post. Leave the winners some love in the comments. They will love you right back, we guarantee it.
Weekend writing showcase
The weekend’s not over: the moonshine grid is still open. Have something to add? Old posts and new are welcome. No moderation, no voting. It’s a laid-back relaxed kind of place. Just leave your commercial or sponsored posts at home. Drop by, share your work, and while you’re there, visit your fellow yeah writers.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
