This is gonna be a hard post to write because I want to include everybody in it. There were so many wonderful entries, I should turn this into a school field day where everybody gets a ribbon. I still remember my fifth grade field day on which I was rocking the chartreuse gauchos. Good times.

Virgins!

Eight newbies this week, and what a week it was. I hope you guys had a good time and enjoyed showing off your wares to your new visitors. Thanks for jumping right into the fray, and we hope to see you for yeah write #50.

Editor’s choice by Erica

Kim at Mama Mzungu wins for detailing the conflict between letting her toddler cry and fidget in  public, attempting to soothe him with Verse 6,000 of Kum Ba Ya or shutting him up with an iPhone app. Like Kim, Q and I carry electronic gadgets everywhere, but it’s a no-brainer for us, guilty parental conscience be damned. Are Kim and her husband and my husband and I frying our children’s young brains with all the screen time? Maybe. Probably. But they are quiet and, for the moment, not tearing up anything or kicking us in the neck. It’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make. Congrats, Kim, on the win.

Lurker’s favorite by Flood

Flood chose Michelle’s The Journey story of finishing her first 5K run in tears, but finishing it. Flood writes:

I ran in my first 5K event on St, Patrick’s Day, so I was hooked and rooting for Michelle throughout the recollection of her first 5K. Surviving what she initially felt was humiliating failure, and discovering that finishing is the victory, I’m reminded of the struggle writers face. Runners, like writers, are competing with themselves. It’s fun to tell people you’re a writer or a runner but you’re very, very alone when you do either. It’s just you and the voice in your head, pushing you forward or holding you back. Completing your goal, even if you’re crying at the end, is a triumph.

Congrats, Michelle, on the win.

Lurker’s favorite by Q

Q’s pick was Tracy’s at Scribblesaurus open letter to construction workers begging inviting them to pay attention to her as they once did in her youth. Well-constructed with tongue-in-cheek, Q enjoyed the humorous look at what many of us previously considered an annoyance, but could maybe appreciate on the other side of 30. Congrats, Tracy, on the win.

Popular vote winner

Kim at The G is Silent never once gave up her lead for the win as her post about the day her father was killed in the line of duty struck many of us with its honesty and unfolding tragedy told through the memory of an eight-year-old narrator. This is Kim’s very first popular win at yeah write, and it was incredibly well-deserved. Congrats, Kim, on the bittersweet win.

Never would have known such blogs existed if not for my daugther directing me how to get to her blog and telling me exactly what a blog was ! Yes, I am a Grandy with very little tech expertise but I am open to learning something new everyday because if I don’t my 5 yr old grandchildren are going to show me up. I have had so much fun reading these blogs. If the day looks like it is going down the tube, then I read my daugther’s blog and laugh for the next 15 minutes and then I am good to go for the rest of the day. If you are looking for a way to relieve stress, go on some of these blogs and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!

Thanks, Grandy!

Random WordPress theme winner

I just broke Louise Ducote’s 44-year streak of never randomly winning anything with random.org. There were only eight people entered, so she had a pretty good chance, but still, that’s pretty awesome. Congrats, Louise! Please browse the Elegant Themes site then email me with your choice of template.

Superfecta challenge points

Four eventual winners, four current leaders:

Stacey at Confessions of a Super Mommy [55]

Kristin at That Unique Weblog [51]

Gia at Mayor Gia [46.4]

Katie at Chicken Noodle Gravy [45.4]

The full spreadsheet with everyone’s point totals is here and available for download.

Win-win

The thumbnails are now sorted in the grid from most yellow star votes to the least. In the case of a tie, like if four blogs all got seven votes each, the thumbnails are additionally sorted by page views. Do not be discouraged if your blog has landed near the bottom of the grid; it is always a tight race. The fun lies in getting better exposure for your blog and in the spirit of competition as incentive to improve your writing and blogging skills. It’s a win-win for everybody involved.

Thanks again, everybody, for linking up, for reading, for voting. And for making yeah write the most welcoming spot on the Interwebs for writers who blog and bloggers who write.

Yeah write #50 opens Tuesday.
