Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!

Pocket Full of Sunshine Daylight Saving Time ends here in the US today. Apparently there is a whole lot of clock-changing happening around the world and my heart goes out to those affected. Messing with time is really absurd to me, even if this is the part...

YeahWrite #342 Weekly Writing Challenge: Popular Vote Winners and Editors’ Picks
Doing Better Last night I had the dubious joy of sharing a coffeeshop with two lit-bros. They described in excruciating detail their fascinating and innovative stories, that they were sure nobody had shared with the world. "My story takes place in the 60's, like, in...

November Is For Writing Only it seems I'll be reading instead. I have an idea for a novel, because who doesn't? But NaNoWriMo intimidates me when I can't even find time to write a blog post. I have done NaBloPoMo a few times in the past, and honestly daily blogging...
The Rhythm Method
I've got rhythm How many songs say that? A whole lot. But as a writer you need rhythm too. Rhythm is what keeps our writing from feeling stale. How many times have you sat down to read a 500 word essay and felt that it was interminable, but a 5,000 word...
Some of these streams descend by beautiful cascades
I'm always on the lookout for a little poetry in life. I love P.W. Norris' 19th century description of Yellowstone almost as much as I love the waterfalls themselves: Some of these streams descend by beautiful cascades or in dark narrow cañons, and others,...

All work and no play... This week, Arden and I are in Beaver Creek, Colorado, for Sirens, an annual conference that explores and celebrates the role of women in fantasy and science fiction. This year's guests include Kate Elliot, V.E. Schwab*, Zoraida Cordova, and the...
