Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!
Congratulations to the Round 1 winners at YeahWrite Super Challenge #27
Write here, write now. Creative nonfiction is uncomfortable. It's vulnerable. And it's amazing. Congratulations to ALL our writers. The judges worked hard to give you the valuable feedback that could take your essays to the next level (if you're not on our Discord...
YeahWrite #621 Weekly Writing Challenge
I smell a rat This morning, I found a rat in my garden. It was dead. I spotted it when I went out to water, before I took my (supposed rat catcher) dogs for a walk. I live in an area that's often plagued by rats and mice and I have a fairly productive (container)...

YeahWrite #620 Weekly Writing Challenge
Rut Roh I'm in a rut, what feels like a fairly substantial one. Lately it seems like any progress I make in any part of my life, the universe comes for me, shoving me backward. Two steps forward, fourteen steps back. Focusing on my writing, time is my issue. My 'real...
YeahWrite #619 Weekly Writing Challenge
Talk to the duckie For some reason, when I went to law school, people were bewildered. "Why wouldn't you do something with computers, you're always on the computer," they said. Aside from the fact that just because you might be good at something doesn't mean you owe...
Super Challenge #27 Round 1 is Underway!
You're on your own Just kidding. While by the time you see this post I'll have fled the country (just to Canada, don't worry), you're never really on your own as a writer at YeahWrite. Don't believe me? Head over to the Super Challenge Discord channel and find...
YeahWrite #618 Weekly Writing Challenge
In the doldrums Doldrums is one of those words that sounds to me like exactly what it is: a dreary, sluggish, stagnant state of mind. It's easy to get bogged down in the day-to-day (especially for this Pacific Northwest writer in February) and lose sight of the clear...
YeahWrite #617 Weekly Writing Challenge

YeahWrite #616 Weekly Writing Challenge
Hard reset I'm not a big believer in New Year's resolutions or intentions or words. I start off enthusiastically enough, but fold pretty quickly under the pressure to conform to some imaginary standard. You know, that goal that's just a little too high, a little too...
