Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!

Dog days of summer Hello, everyone! Christine speaking. Rowan is away on a well-deserved vacation, and that means I have the privilege of announcing this week’s winners! But first, I wanted to take a moment to congratulate all of you - not just the winners, or even...

Mushroompalooza The only things keeping me from complaining on my humid walks through the woods with my dogs right now are the mushrooms. So many mushrooms, so many colors, so many shapes and sizes. Nature like this appeals to my inner biology geek. Then today I heard...
Congratulations to the Round 2 winners at YeahWrite Super Challenge #9
Well, Round Two went off with only one miiiiiiinor hitch (it's days like this that make me glad we no longer try to send out the prompt by email at a specific time and then respond to individual inquiries as they come in), and while I'm sure you've found something in...
Welcome to YeahWrite’s Weekly Writing Challenge #382
Substitute Me for Her Oh hi! Psssst, it's me Stacie. Michelle is on a plane right now, though not by the time this post goes live, so I get to moonlight as head honcho of the kickoff post! I hardly know what to do with my newfound power, bwah ha ha. It's...

YeahWrite #381 Weekly Writing Challenge: Popular Vote Winners and Editors’ Picks
Read Me? I've been doublechecking class handouts for Deconstructing Prompts all week. Like PowerPoint presentations, handouts should have enough information that a student doesn't have to take detailed notes, but not so much that the class doesn't add nuance to their...

Hot Air I just put air in my left rear tire for the second time in two weeks. I have a feeling that in two more weeks, I'll confirm I have a slow leak that needs addressing, especially since usually when the air pressure warning illuminates, it's because it's cold...
Let me explain… No, it takes too long. Let me sum up.
We've spent the last three months talking about how to write about other people's writing. Let's spend August talking about how to write about our own. Whether you're pitching a novel or entering a competition, you'll need to be able to evaluate and...
The Incredible Shrinking Poem
Last month we held onto our burdens; this month let's lighten them a little with diminishing verse. Ordinarily I'd put a big ol' explanation of where diminishing verse comes from right here, but honestly there really isn't one. It's just a bunch of poets...
