Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!

Stay Calm Everyone is back to school now here which means a greater hassle factor to do just about anything. I am not a fan of more traffic and long lines at the grocery store. I am not a very patient person and get easily annoyed when people aren't efficient....

Something in the air tonight I live in the city now, but I grew up in the country. We didn't have air conditioning; we had one box fan and lots of screens. There's something about listening to the world fall asleep around me that is incredibly soothing. I love the...

I Love September Even though summer for me is pretty much the same as the other months, I always love September. It just screams new start. Personally, I'm the walking embodiment of a new start, as today marks one month I've been living in California after...
Can you dig it?
This month's writing prompts are all about opening lines, but I'm still on my terminal words kick. Tritinas, diminishing poems, what's an editor in need of a poetry slam to do? Our September poetry slam takes a page out of Terrance Hayes' book - literally,...
Who do you think you are
I'm sorry in advance for all the earworms this post is about to contain. We're going to be talking through some potentially scary and also potentially boring material and this is going to help us get through. OK? Fine. Well, as the song says, Come on and...

YeahWrite #385 Weekly Writing Challenge: Popular Vote Winners
Ugh, deadlines. If you're like me, you don't start writing until, well, the day the new Technique Toolbox is due. Or two hours before the grids close. I like to joke that I do some of my best writing on a tight deadline... but I'm lying. I do my most inspired writing...

Don't Blink My youngest baby started high school this week! How does time march so quickly? I remember when he was little as if it were yesterday and suddenly I must look up in order to meet his eyes. I'm trying not to blink right now because that's probably about how...
Welcome to YeahWrite’s Weekly Writing Challenge #385
Words of Wisdom There's a saying: Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard. I know that writers often suffer from imposter syndrome, and sometimes we write something and think, "Wow, that is good!" Don't pretend you don't. If you didn't think...
