Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!

YeahWrite #399 Weekly Writing Challenge: Popular Vote Winners and Editors’ Picks
Windy City I know Chicago got its nickname from its politics, but I'd like to vouch for the power of the wind coming off Lake Michigan. Not that I'd know: I've been holed up in a room writing the whole time, with occasional trips out to get a food or hug a SFF...

YeahWrite #399 Weekly Writing Challenge is Open for Microprose
It takes all kinds One of the things I love about prompted writing challenges is seeing how differently people approach the prompt. And one of the things I love about microprose is that it really highlights these differences. With so little room to spare, a writer...

Don't Skip This Paragraph Y'all. I don't know if your 2018 has been like my 2018, but if it has, then it's been all over the place, super good, also not so great, stalled and faltering while rushing through at breakneck speed. If you think that makes no...
Prologue: The Year of Fearless Writing
To be a writer is to be fearless. Sounds good, doesn’t it? But let’s face it: how many of us really write without fear? Mhm, thought so. Writing - whether it's a personal essay or a fantasy story - makes us vulnerable, and that’s terrifying. There is...
The State of Poetry in 2018
How long was this year, anyway? There is a little cluster of memes going around this internet - maybe you've seen one - about how 2018 is the year where linear time stopped making any sense. For example, Black Panther came out this year, but like, does...

Deep Breath...Get Busy As I mentioned earlier, the next two months are my busy time with five birthdays in the house plus the holidays. This week, my oldest son turns 22, and how am I even that old? All I can say is thank goodness for online shopping. I remember when...
