Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!
Year of Fearless Writing: Submissions Spreadsheets
Welcome to the Year of Fearless Writing! You write. I mean, that's why you're here. But how often do you say "I'm a writer?" And what's the difference between "I write" and "I'm a writer" anyway? Over the last five years, YeahWrite--besides being a great place to...
Blank you, you blanking blankity-blank
Building Blocks December was the season of gifting, and boy did I end up getting a lot of building-themed presents for the kids in my life. Whether you’re working with Legos or Minecraft, it’s still popular to make big things out of little things – and then, um, make...

Squad Goals Remember what babes in the woods we all were at the beginning of 2018? I think I may actually have dared 2018 to "COME AT ME." It did. Now that we're at the nub end of the year, I'm bowing in supplication to 2019, that it might be kinder and gentler than...

Last Call for 2018 Votes! As far as late December goes, it's not terribly cold here in New England, or at least not in Massachusetts. I had to change out of my PJs on Christmas Day to hike with my dogs and it was mid-30s and sunny, which is about all I can ask for...

Short days, long nights 'Tis the season where I consider mugging Stacie and taking: 1) her days off 2) her proper winter weather 3) those really cute dogs, or maybe just one of the puppies at the shelter where she volunteers (Glitter, baby, I'm coming) (her name is...

Storm Before the Calm I'm about to have a week off and whew boy does that sound good. Ok, ok, I don't work in an office anymore. But when kids are off and the husband is off, it's like a vacation for me too. All next week, I can lounge around in pajamas and generally...

Faking it Today at work someone asked me to edit an essay on the new technology scientists use. It was written by a well-respected archaeologist. I just kind of marveled at that for a minute. Well, actually, the first feeling I crashed into was Imposter Syndrome. You...

Baby, it's warm outside Back in the Pacific Northwest (or the "specific northwest" as my little sister used to say) it's 20 degrees warmer. Makes me feel a little closer to Asha and my other Antipodean friends, I guess, but it's not very "end of year." What is end of...

Sweet December I've been eating too much sugar this month, which seems to happen annually with everyone in my house having birthdays on top of the holidays. Because I don't normally eat a lot of sugar, my body doesn't like it: I feel sluggish and icky. My mouth really...
