Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!
Congratulations to the Round 1 winners at YeahWrite Super Challenge #11
Math is hard; you reap the benefits One of the things we pride ourselves on at YeahWrite is the quality and consistency of our judging. To give you the best and fairest results, we don't scatter your group's stories among a bunch of judges; each judge reads, scores,...
YeahWrite #408 Weekly Writing Challenge is Open for Microprose
Celebrations I'm a sucker for big outdoor celebrations: festivals, parades, community picnics, all of that, especially when there's an element of ritual or tradition involved. Yesterday, as you probably know, was Chinese Lunar New Year (known as the Spring Festival in...
Welcome to YeahWrite’s Weekly Writing Challenge #408
The Timing Is Never Right I don't have time to write. I don't have a good place to write. If I'm going to write, I need a dedicated day to do it. I need to have a perfect setup with nice pens and a cup of tea and, I don't know, a cookie or something. Not this cookie,...

Haters gonna hate It's literally a HUNDRED DEGREES FAHRENHEIT warmer where I am than where my friends are... and it's still not warm. That's ok; they've promised me snow next week, which means I'll see four or five anemic flakes before the temperature rises 6 degrees...
Arting about art
Welp, it's February again, which means I'm locked into my annual quest to find something that's not a frickin sonnet for our poetry slam. Not that there's anything wrong with sonnets (and in fact, I'm going to let you write a sonnet this month if that's your jam) but...
Year of Fearless Writing: Finding a Home for Your Work
Welcome to the Year of Fearless Writing! You write. I mean, that's why you're here. But how often do you say "I'm a writer?" And what's the difference between "I write" and "I'm a writer" anyway? Over the last five years, YeahWrite--besides being a great place to...
YeahWrite #407 Weekly Writing Challenge is Open for Popular Voting
Brrrrr YeahWrite voting day is so cold here in New England, but I'm not complaining after reading about -20°F temperatures in the US Midwest (and that's without the windchill). Wait, yes I am. I hate being cold and just because my 3°F cold isn't as bad as their cold...
Welcome to YeahWrite’s Weekly Writing Challenge #407
Story Time It's almost February (where did January go?) and time to refocus on writing and telling stories. The end of January brings with it the Society for Storytelling's National Storytelling Week in the UK. Officially starting on January 26 and ending February 2,...
Super Challenge 11 is underway! Welcome to Round One.
Welcome, writers, to Super Challenge 11! We're excited to have you here - and we're excited for our new two-round format. We hope this fits into your busy lives and that you enjoy a little added flexibility in the first round, our "longlist" round. You should have...
YeahWrite #406 Weekly Writing Challenge: Popular Vote Winners and Editors’ Picks
Reach for the stars There's an inspirational quote that makes the rounds periodically, usually slapped over some sort of adorable cartoon image or fantastic galaxy and with questionable attribution. It goes "Shoot for the moon, because even if you miss, you'll land...
