Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!

To hail in a handbasket While literally everywhere else (it seems) in the US has record snow, I'm sitting at home watching our third hailstorm in two days. The hailstones are as big as my pinky fingernail, and are piling up in drifts trying to pretend they're snow....

Sad Memoir I recently had a self-published memoir foisted on me by someone close to the author. After reading the first page, I couldn't help but groan, which is a shame because I love well-written memoirs. I find it fascinating to read about the lives of strangers...

But how do you do it? I used to refer to fostering retired greyhounds as "serial pet dating" when people asked me how I could stand to just, you know, not keep them all. "I would have 50 dogs," they laughed ruefully. But it's not like that: while Mister, or Dioggi...

Dog Gone I realize it's not fall, but when I saw this photo, I had to choose it because the dog reminds me of the first shelter dog I fell in love with when I started volunteering last August. Chiclet wove his way into the fabric of my heart and nearly became my third...

Mold I am a practical person. I am often teased in my family for including things like new sheets, a humidifier, a new pair of rubber boots on my Christmas wish list, and never anything fun. I also adhere pretty strictly to a routine. So much so that my cat Link...

All I can think of is bird jokes and it's all Stacie's fault Well, it's looking like my little piece of the world is finally about to get some winter, and I'm here for it. Sorry to the folks in Seattle with the sold out grocery stores (seriously, it's gonna be like, a...

Finish Line How do I become one of those people who just stops reading books they aren't into? I have this odd sense of duty to finish what I start. I know that's misguided, but I can't help myself. When I am in a slower period of devouring books, like now, the reason...
