Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!
Welcome to YeahWrite’s Weekly Writing Challenge #413
You inspired this. Inspiration takes all forms. It has always fascinated me how a writer can go months without experiencing any spark of creativity and then, after reading a meme on Twitter, they're knee-deep into a new novel. How many writing friends have you heard...
Super Challenge #12 is OPEN for registration!
Welcome back! We've got some exciting news. 2019 swept in on a polar vortex here in the northern US, bringing changes to YeahWrite and our Super Challenge is no exception. If you participated in our nonfiction challenge this winter, you're already familiar with these...
YeahWrite #412 Weekly Writing Challenge: Popular Vote Winners
Heck off, sun. Stacie may be ready for Daylight Saving Time, but I'm staying in bed and NOT GETTING UP EVER EVER. I'm putting up the blackout curtains, and tunneling in until November or whenever it stops being light not only after work but after dinnertime and...
YeahWrite #412 Weekly Writing Challenge is Open for Popular Voting
Spring Forward! Longer days elevate my mood even more than warmer temperatures, and that is saying a lot. And this weekend we set the clocks ahead for daylight saving time, so the light will stay with us later in the day. [Ed's note: NO. no nonononono no no no...
YeahWrite #412 Weekly Writing Challenge is Open for Microprose
Once upon a time... Okay, so it was really only last week. Asha and I stumbled across a fun little Twitter contest from the Fairy Tale Review, where participants were asked to tell a complete fairy tale in a single tweet. (You can read some of the results by searching...
Welcome to YeahWrite’s Weekly Writing Challenge #412
Way Back When We're coming up on seven years since I submitted my first post* to YeahWrite. It was terrible. On the surface it was about a box of crackers, but it was actually about my relationship with a former coworker. I don't remember exactly how the two were tied...
YeahWrite #411 Weekly Writing Challenge: Popular Vote Winners and Editors’ Picks
Magic beans? Stacie may have her bean soup, but I prefer bean tea. Or as you plebians probably call it, coffee. It lets me go about my day without killing anyone, although those 40+ research tabs I have open in my browser for this story have convinced me I could get...
Year of Fearless Writing: Finding and Working With an Editor
Welcome to the Year of Fearless Writing! You write. I mean, that's why you're here. But how often do you say "I'm a writer?" And what's the difference between "I write" and "I'm a writer" anyway? Over the last five years, YeahWrite--besides being a great place to...
YeahWrite #411 Weekly Writing Challenge is Open for Popular Voting
Cool Beans I'm making heirloom bean soup tonight and if that isn't exciting, I don't know what is. Seriously, ever since I bought my Instant Pot (pressure cooker), I am digging how easy it is to make beans from scratch. And they taste SO much better. Plus, then I can...
Welcome to YeahWrite’s Weekly Writing Challenge #411
Repairing my pants Those of you who have encountered NaNoWriMo will be familiar with the terms planner and pantser in reference to writing style. Planners, as the name implies, tend to map out the parameters of their story and have a clear idea of who their characters...
