Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!
Year of Fearless Writing: Finding and Forming Critique Groups
Welcome to the Year of Fearless Writing! You write. I mean, that's why you're here. But how often do you say "I'm a writer?" And what's the difference between "I write" and "I'm a writer" anyway? Over the last five years, YeahWrite--besides being a great place to...

{Insert Clever April Fools Joke Here} So how did your first part of the year go? Did you accomplish what you want or is April Fool's Day just another day for your goals to taunt you? Sometimes I see my friends and aquaintances launching their books, attending events,...

Sniffle Nothing is blooming yet, but every morning I wake up congested, then it goes away. I'm typically not prone to allergies so now I'm wondering if maybe I should change my filters (again). In the meantime, I'm feeling much empathy for those who suffer from...

The other side Last week was a good one for writers. Wednesday was World Storytelling Day, and Thursday was UNESCO's World Poetry Day. Thursday was also the International Day for the Elimination of Racism; a day that commemorates and honours the 69 peaceful protestors...

Nie moje małpy, ale mój cyrk: they may not be my monkeys, but this is my circus (as an aside, I'm pretty proud of myself for retaining enough Polish to be able to adjust the original proverb, nie mój cyrk, nie moje małpy, to match the headline despite not having lived...

Maybe Tomorrow I wear real clothes once, sometimes twice, per week. And by "real," I mean jeans. The rest of the time, I'm sporting (see what I did there?) sweat pants when it's cold or athletic shorts when it's warm, minus the occasional dress. Needless to say, I...

Less Than Thrilling As an Amazon Prime member, I get to choose a free book each month for my Kindle e-reader. I typically wait until the end of the month, so I can base my choice on reviews. Occasionally, the books are great reads. More often than not, though, they...
YeahWrite #413 Weekly Writing Challenge: Popular Vote Winners
I wrote a big intro last night about how much fun I had at the circus and then I woke up this morning and it felt completely inappropriate to post it in light of the events in New Zealand. So I'm going to ask you to bear with me for a moment as I give you something...

Empty Head This week's been a blur and my brain is fried. I feel so tired. Maybe it's the time change, even though it's only an hour. I have no idea what to write, so I'm just going to admit that and say HEY it's time to read and vote! Popular voting for the YeahWrite...
