Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!

Silence is Golden I am sitting here stunned by the silence. For what seems like forever, leaf blowers have polluted the air with their incessant buzzing during the daylight hours. This won't last long, I'm sure; the trees aren't quite done yet. But it's amazing how...
Congratulations to the Round 1 winners at YeahWrite Super Challenge #14
It's the moment we've all been waiting for... but first a few announcements. Y'all, I want to remind you that we could only move the top two stories from each round to the finals. That means we're grading on a very steep curve, and if your story didn't make the cut...
Welcome to YeahWrite’s Weekly Writing Challenge #448
How Are You Holding Up? Now that the first week of November is behind us and we're diving headlong into week two, how are you holding up? Are you still going strong on your November writing goals or have you already fizzled out? Or, are you like me, and never really...
YeahWrite #447 Weekly Writing Challenge: Popular Vote Winners and Editors’ Picks
Bodies in motion stay in motion Hello from the Windy City, where it almost, kinda, sorta snowed this week. You know who I get to see tonight? THAT'S RIGHT, it's a YeahWrite party for not just me but Nate. We're splitting our birthdays and going out. And it's been good...

Massahhhhhhge I feel like this woman right now. Why, you ask? Because I just had a massage and I feel so amazing. This time of year I often get the blues but I find if I treat myself to things that make me feel good, it takes the edge off of the colder, darker days....
YeahWrite #447 Weekly Writing Challenge is Open for Microprose
Little talks It happens. You're at a party, at work, at the bus stop, and somebody launches into a fifteen minute version of a story that all boils down to something like, "the neighbor's cat stole my laundry," and you wonder, did they really need to put in all the...
Welcome to YeahWrite’s Weekly Writing Challenge #447
Wait, hang on... I know it's Asha's turn to write the intro, and I'll let her do that in just a second, but have you heard about NaNoDoMore yet? It's YeahWrite's annual challenge to you. Well. To all of us who look at NaBloPoMo or NaNoWriMo and say... um... have you...

November already? Well. That means it's time for my two favorite things. FIRST: Soul Cake isn't a Christmas carol, it's a Hallowe'en carol, so go out and get some soul cake. SECOND: It's time for NaNoDoMore. That's right, YeahWrite's kicking off November in style,...
Kimo or no?
That doesn't count How many times have you said that? But counting is one of a poet's best tools. Even in poetic forms without rhyme or meter, we're often counting words in a line, lines in a stanza, stanzas in a ... you get the picture. The most famous thing that...
Year of Fearless Writing – Time Confetti
Welcome to the Year of Fearless Writing! You write. I mean, that's why you're here. But how often do you say "I'm a writer?" And what's the difference between "I write" and "I'm a writer" anyway? Over the last five years, YeahWrite--besides being a great place to...
