Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!
20/20 Hindsight – Second Variation
What have I done? Look, February's 20/20 was heckin' hard. We almost died trying to get our story down to wordcount. The good news is, that's the tightest wordcount you're going to have all year. The bad news is... we're still taking away your words, just in a whole...
The final round of Super Challenge #15 is underway!
Decisions! Fortunately for me, I only had to decide on the picture for this post. Decisions are hard. They get harder when I do things like forget to eat, or leave my tea in the microwave for three hours instead of drinking it. (Don't tell me not to make tea in the...
YeahWrite #463 Weekly Writing Challenge: Popular Vote Winners and Editors’ Picks
Time keeps marching on I know it's not March yet but it sure feels like March. All the bikers were out today, me-powered and otherwise. And I'm impatiently waiting for my seeds to do their thing. If you're bored by the idea of me planting cotton and dye flowers and...

I Wish I wish for so many things to be different right now: in my private world, in THE world. Sometimes it feels like everying is spiraling out of control. But the ten-day meditation retreat I attended last December taught that this very thing--the wishing--is a...
Congratulations to the Round 1 winners at YeahWrite Super Challenge #15
I say this every time, but judging the Super Challenge is one of the hardest and most rewarding parts of running the competition. So: let's talk about math for a minute, ok? Mathematically, we can only advance 12 writers to the final round. (Ok, technically it's...
Welcome to YeahWrite’s Weekly Writing Challenge #463
A cast of thousands Yesterday I went to see Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), and as I type this I've got Netflix's They've Gotta Have Us playing in the background (have you seen it? Hurry, go queue it up in your list or borrow a...
YeahWrite #462 Weekly Writing Challenge: Popular Vote Winners
Finish lines I'm trying to be a better adult this week, which means cleaning up around my desk. I'm not an inherently tidy person, and my desk (and the floor, and the little table) have a way of accumulating the dozens of things my spouse hands to me randomly over the...

See Spot Run I saw a Dalmation in the woods today and it made me realize it's been a very long time since I've seen this particular breed. One of my classmates in graduate school had one, an extremely well-behaved dog named Jupiter, who would sit in the corner of the...
Welcome to YeahWrite’s Weekly Writing Challenge #462
Quiet as Mice Ambient noise camouflages the ringing in my ears. Honestly, I don't know how long this has been going on since for over a decade, my husband has snored SO loudly that I can't hear anything else when my body decides to wake up at 3am. When he is away,...
YeahWrite #461 Weekly Writing Challenge: Popular Vote Winners and Editors’ Picks
The actual worst I have written approximately zero words this week except for this paragraph. Instead, I'm editing. My work, other people's work, editing. So much edits. Do not make me look at more words please. Just scroll for the vote. Please. (If this paragraph was...
