Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!
YeahWrite #649 Weekly Writing Challenge
You're not alone Ever have one of those weeks (months... years...) when life rudely crashes in on your precious writing time like the Kool Aid man? How very dare it, right? Right. This year has been filled with unexpected intrusions on my writing time, and this week...

Age is Just a Number This post goes live on my 38th birthday which seems like such an odd number. I don't feel 38, but then I remember that is a ridiculous thing to feel. Sure, as a youth, my undeveloped brain thought someone in their late thirties was sooooo old (I...

Soup It's the first rainy day in my fire-scraped state in a *very long time* and I'm reveling in it. I didn't have to water the garden this morning! The grass might grow back someday! The smoke is... well, it's still there, but the rain is rinsing it out of the sky....

YeahWrite #646 Weekly Writing Challenge
All's well that ends well As I'm writing this, summer is drawing to a close. My family has been surprisingly busy over the last couple of months and it's been hard to fit writing into my schedule. I keep saying, just wait till summer ends and the kids are back in...
YeahWrite #645 Weekly Writing Challenge
August is the yellowest month It's the Noongar season of Djilba where I live and all the yellow flowers are in bloom. Little golden orbs nod their heads happily, bobbing and swaying with the wind. You'd think that would bring me untold joy. I mean, what could be more...
YeahWrite #644 Weekly Writing Challenge
Back in the Saddle I'm still not quite sure what happened, but a few years ago, I finished the draft of my novel -- a novel I'd worked on for 6+ years -- and I just... quit. Perhaps I was simply tired, perhaps it was imposter syndrome, but no matter how proud I was of...
YeahWrite #643 Weekly Writing Challenge
But why is it there in the first place? One of this month's panelists for the Scarlet Quill Society talk (on SUNDAY, that's coming RIGHT UP!) was hosting a discussion on social media this week about, well, unexamined tropes. Specifically, the talk turned to the...
