Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!

Closer Than They Appear I've noticed something, let's call it odd, that is happening during this pandemic "distancing." My friends that are distant don't feel so distant. You see, I can't see my local friends so my far-away friends no longer seem so far away. We are...

New Bird, My word! I saw a new bird today, which is not very common since I don't actively bird right now. On my regular dog hike, a great crested flycatcher perched on a branch right in front of me. I wanted to show you this bird in the post image, but when I...

Risk Assessment Some of you may know I'm in the middle of a career change. It's been scary to pull myself out of my comfort zone for a career that I'm not even sure I'll like or be good at. The leap between writing textbooks and designing eLearning courses isn't...
YeahWrite #472 Weekly Writing Challenge: Popular Vote Winners
May Day I thought about writing something long-winded about our global colonized history of oppression by elevation, about how the "noble, silent worker/slave/servant" mythos has been used to penalize anyone who spoke out about their oppression. About how I see that...

Roger. Copy that. Let's talk tech. Technique, that is. Technique is about more than just copying a poem's form, although we've been having a lot of fun doing that and building muscle memory while we're at it. Technique is the building blocks to make your own poetry,...

Not So Far One of the interesting side-effects, at least for me, an extrovert, of social distancing is that my out-of-town friends don't feel as far away. I can't see my in-town friends, so my interactions with all of my friends is similar, meaning they all feel...

Taking What I Can Get If there's one area of my life this COVID situation hasn't upended, it's my inability to write. I was having trouble before this started and I continue to struggle. On the rare occassion that I'm not super busy with work (really thankful to even...
