Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!

In the Weeds Every day, I hike with my dogs along a wooded trail which in two places opens up into a meadow. The weeds have gotten so tall on either side of the trail that I can no longer see my dogs if they choose to venture in there. Heck, in some places the brush...

TV and Movies I love TV and movies. Like, really love them. There are times when I think I should read more often and watch less. (I mean, I *should* read more.) I was watching a movie last weekend (Palm Springs on Hulu. You should check it out.) and it did the thing...

The little things Sometimes it feels like writing is all you've got left, the one thing that will always be there for you. Through thick and thin the words spill out. Good? Bad? Who knows. Write another poem. Other times, one little thing can make it completely...

Elsewhere It's sweltering where I am. I don't know about you, but that's not my favorite feeling. I'm coping by looking at pictures of cold places, whether on the Internet or in video games. And stories. So many stories. If I can't go away with my body, at least I'll...

Who knew? According to R.E.M. at the end of the world as we know it we're supposed feel fine (you're welcome for that earworm). I don't know how fine you're feeling, but I'm about fair to middling. It's interesting how those simple lyrics evoke such depth of memory...

Lost thyme That's not even a pun. A couple weeks ago, in a fit of gardening, I planted thyme in my front yard. And promptly forgot about it, because all the food plants and the herb garden are out back. So I've been diligently watering the crookneck squash, the...

Celebrate YOU Many USAmericans will be celebrating the 4th of July this weekend, albeit not likely in the usual big social way of the pre-covid past, unless they're in a location that hasn't issued rules or guidelines, or where people aren't taking those rules...
