Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!

The world had moved on Yeah, it's a line from a Stephen King book. But that doesn't make it less poignant or true. The world has moved on, and is moving on, and you and we are moving with it. A lot has changed since Erica posted the first lovelink (don't know what...

Time keeps on slipping, slipping We’ve talked about how the pandemic has made time feel strange: months feel like days, weeks feel like years, and who even knows what day of the week it is today. It almost makes the annual holiday season time slip feel comfortable, a...

I See the Lights If you ask me to be completely honest, I'm still riding high on this week's Scarlet Quill meeting. Our panel delivered almost an hour of analysis of the tropes of Hallmark Christmas Movies, and then they turned around and gave us the plot for a...
YeahWrite #661 Weekly Writing Challenge
The sun's shining, let's make hay! After what feels like a year full of rejections and defeats, I've had some big wins recently. There have been some shortlists, a second place, and several acceptances for publication. I'm trying not to breathe too hard, trying not to...
YeahWrite #660 Weekly Writing Challenge
Bon Voyage When this post goes live, I'll be less than two weeks away from leaving on an epic adventure to Spain with my better half to celebrate his 40th trip around the sun. It wasn't until this final countdown began that I realized how much stress and anxiety I've...

Goooooooal! I have friends doing NaNoWriMo. I love my friends. I do not love NaNo. And not just because, as an editor, I end up seeing tooo many sloppy projects (honestly, save your editor time and you money and check out last year's Scarlet Quill series on editing...

Short fiction is in trouble If you've been running around in the short fiction writing community for any length of time, you know that there has been a lot of upheaval and uncertainty. The onslaught of AI-generated story submissions, an increase in scams and predatory...
