Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!
YeahWrite #328 Weekly Writing Challenge: Popular Vote Winners and Editors’ Picks
Bear with me It's a pun, get it? Sorry, my sense of humor isn't what it might be: I'm coming off a three-day migraine punctuated by texts from my dad asking if I've finished the bear bells for our camping trip yet. See, bear bells are... they're bells. You...
YeahWrite #328 Weekly Writing Challenge is Open for Popular Voting
Flying high I'm in pre-vacation running around like a headless chicken mode. Whether or not I'll have time to read the grids is up in the air, but I hope everyone else takes the time to read, leave thoughtful comments, and vote! Popular voting for the YeahWrite #328...
Congratulations to the Round 1 winners at YeahWrite Super Challenge #5
Returning Super Challengeers, you probably noticed that Round One was handled a little differently from past Super Challenges. Instead of waiting around for that 10:00 pm email, you got your group assignment early and picked up your own prompt at 10:00. How'd that go...
YeahWrite #328 Weekly Writing Challenge is Open for Fiction|Poetry
Putting Pen To Paper I have begun this week by physically putting my words down on paper using a pen. I've mostly fallen out of the habit of writing out my stories, or anything longer than a shopping list or birthday card, but I owed a few people some lengthy letters....

YeahWrite #328 Weekly Writing Challenge is Open for Personal Essays & Mostly True Stories
Whose Story Is It Anyway? We all have stories. We have the ones we are a part of and those we've heard. We have the ones we've participated in and the ones where we're just hanging on the periphery. As humans, we hear stories every day from our coworkers and friends...
YeahWrite #328 Weekly Writing Challenge Kickoff
Editors Are People Too Hi! As you know, I'm the Editor-in-Chief here at YeahWrite. Of all the editors, I've been hanging around these parts the longest (though I haven't been editor as long as one other - bonus points* if you know who has been editor here longer than...
YeahWrite #327 Weekend Writing Showcase
The Weekend Writing Showcase is open! TGIF, YeahWriters! Well in the next few days, my big move is coming to an end, and I could not be more ready for it. Though it has gone as smooth as a cross-country move can go, there is one universal truth that goes...
YeahWrite #327 Weekly Writing Challenge: Popular Vote Winners
Making the grade Most teachers get at least part of the summer off (supposedly; I see you, teachers, working on your syllabi on unpaid time, and I want to thank you for it). But here at YeahWrite we've been busy all week "grading" Super Challenge essays!...

Hot hot hot! After a few cool days late last week, summer has returned with a vengeance here in New England. Therefore, I'm offering virtual ice cream to anyone who would like some before settling in to read the grids. I'm eating two scoops! Popular voting for the...
