Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!
YeahWrite #331 Weekly Writing Challenge Kickoff
Sharing Is Caring I feel like I've used that heading title before but I can't remember. Oh well. Regardless, the sentiment remains. The Weekly Writing Challenges rely on you, our audience and participants, to spread the word. When you tweet, share links on Facebook,...
The Final Round of Super Challenge #5 is Underway!
Congratulations on making it to the final round of the YeahWrite Super Challenge! This round you'll have a new kind of prompt: a sentence. Each writer will incorporate that sentence into an essay about... well, about wherever that sentence takes them for inspiration....

Congratulations to the Round 2 winners at YeahWrite Super Challenge #5
Whew. That's over. If personal essays are a creative nonfictioneer's meat and milk, it's still important to know how to persuade your audience. That's what Round Two tested. If you, like many of our writers, felt a little out of your depth, check out this tutorial we...
YeahWrite #330 Weekly Writing Challenge is Open for Fiction|Poetry
Accountability Check Hey y'all! Remember two weeks ago I said I was trying something new with my writing? My big plan was to spend ten minutes every day physically writing with a pen and a piece of paper. I was hopeful that this would kick start some creativity, or at...
YeahWrite #330 Weekly Writing Challenge is Open for Personal Essays & Mostly True Stories
Go Beyond a Day in the Life If you read last week's winners post, you might already know what I'm going to say. (You did read it, right?). In her Roundup, Rowan talked about how a personal essay must go beyond a diary entry. Since it's such good advice, I thought I'd...
YeahWrite #330 Weekly Writing Challenge Kickoff
How Much Do You Want to Win? When I first started participating at YeahWrite, I kept a spreadsheet of what post I submitted, how many were on the grid, where I ranked and if I got an Editor's Pick (note: that column was almost always blank). I studied those who did...
