Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!
Sijo what I did there?
I can’t believe it’s back-to-school time already. Whether you’re in school yourself or just providing taxi services to small schoolbound humans, you probably just lost a certain amount of free time in your schedule. That’s ok. This month’s poetry slam has...
A tutor who tooted the flute…
Fiction, as a genre, gets broken down pretty easily. If you think of “fiction” you know there’s horror, sci-fi, fantasy, romance, and so on and so forth. But when most people think of nonfiction, they tend to lump it all together into one amorphous category. Even...

Early fall? I spied a maple shedding pink leaves across the trail where I hike. It's very early for fall colors, but the sudden burst of color at my feet brightened my day. I hope reading and voting on the grids brightens yours! Popular voting for the YeahWrite #333...
YeahWrite #333 Weekly Writing Challenge is Open for Fiction|Poetry
New Horizons Today is the first day of school for me, and going back this fall is hard, even harder than returning after maternity leave back in February. Part of it is that the relationship with my son is deepening. He is approaching my favorite age, that magic space...

YeahWrite #333 Weekly Writing Challenge is Open for Personal Essays & Mostly True Stories
Where Were You? Last week's grid was light. It happens, I know. Were you drained or overwhelmed by the events of the world? Were you getting ready to send kids off to school? Maybe you were taking one last summer trip. Maybe you're not in this hemisphere so it's...
YeahWrite #333 Weekly Writing Challenge Kickoff
Are You Just Dreaming? Now, I'm not one to go posting inspirational messages and whatnot, but I guess I was having a sappy moment when I first read about Norma Heath so I made a note to write about her in an upcoming kickoff. Norma was, at one time, homeless, a drug...
