Weekly Writing Challenges Archive
Welcome to YeahWrite’s archives. Below, you’ll find all of our posts. We kick off each writing week on Friday (what?) with a new prompt for you. For 500 weeks YeahWrite hosted “weekly grids” which enabled writers to link their self-hosted responses, and to read and vote on each others’ work, as well as commenting. Check out our creative nonfiction, fiction|poetry, and microprose archives for a closer look at our nearly ten years of weekly writing competitions. While we no longer host weekly competition grids, we’re still delivering the prompts you love as well as our Super Challenge and classes. We also feature monthly instructional or challenge posts, which you’ll find collected here as well as in our writing help archive!

Social Butterfly I've had social obligations every evening for the past week, which has been both fun and exhausting (even for an extrovert). I really want to spend the next few days under a blanket with a good book but alas I have 8th grade back-to-school-night to...
YeahWrite #337 Weekly Writing Challenge is Open for Fiction|Poetry
Sensational I just read an interesting article about sense words in fiction. You know, saw, heard, felt, smelled, touched. The author, Kathy Steinemann, pointed out that sense words filter imagery through a character instead of allowing the reader to experience the...

YeahWrite #337 Weekly Writing Challenge is Open for Personal Essays & Mostly True Stories
Tense Person I am a tense person. I like to tell people I'm high strung. I'm not sure why I like to tell them. It's not exactly a positive trait. I guess it's so that when they sneak up behind me, and I jump to the ceiling I can say, "Well, I told you I was high...

Seasonal Thoughts It's officially autumn here in the US, which means I'm officially depressed that in three months it will officially be winter. In the meantime, we have a few months of people either talking about or making fun of pumpkin spice. On the bright side, in...

YeahWrite #336 Weekly Writing Challenge: Popular Vote Winners
"I'd rather take coffee than compliments just now" Louisa May Alcott said that first, or so the Internet tells me, but I'm feeling it right now. My espresso machine has been broken for a month and I've been spending my mornings hunched over the stove,...
