Our November writing contest starts today here at yeah write
We’d like to welcome those of you who are here for the first time, those of you are returning after a necessary sabbatical, and those who are here with us week after week without break or interference. This is the largest contest we’ve run since 2011 or 2012 when we gave away more than $300 in prizes, including an ad in the sidebar of The Bloggess, books from friends of yeah write and videography services. Just like way back when, our community has gathered in this one place to offer more than $700 in cash, books and Lindt chocolate. Many many thanks to our contest prize donors: anonymous friends, Victoria Barrett of Engine Books, Myfanwy Collins, and Lindt Chocolate.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image border_color=”green” img_link_target=”_self” image=”22666″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_border”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”22670″ alignment=”center” border_color=”sky” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”full” link=”http://enginebooks.org/_source/books.html” style=”vc_box_border”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”22458″ alignment=”center” border_color=”sandy_brown” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”full” link=”http://myfanwycollins.com/blog/” style=”vc_box_border”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”22665″ alignment=”center” border_color=”purple” img_link_target=”_self” img_size=”full” style=”vc_box_border”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
How will the November writing contest work?
We wrote you a whole page about it. Click here for details, but the main thing to remember right now is you must be a subscriber to the yeah write weekly email blast to be eligible for any of the prizes. If you haven’t already subscribed, here’s the link.
If you were referred by someone else to the contest, that person must also be subscribed to win the referrer’s prize. Remind them!

What if I don’t want to enter the contest? I just wanna hang out at yeah write like normal
No problem. Submit your personal essay, mostly true story, fiction, poetry or microstory and you can hang out on the submissions grid.
How will you know that I’m part of the contest and not just hanging out? I really want that $200 and, especially, the truffles
We have an official entry form in Google Forms for you to fill out. If you want to be moved to the competitive grid by voting day, then fill out this form so we’ll know you’re part of the contestant pool.
The editors will use that information to populate our scoring sheets if we move your entry to the competitive grid for voting day, so you’ll have to fill out the from each week you’re entering the actual contest. Don’t worry about it the weeks you’re not entering.
What’s this about a vote?
It’s business as usual for the four weeks of the writing contest at yeah write. Although the winning entries will be determined by our editorial staff panel, you can still earn bragging rights by winning the popular vote which takes place on Thursdays.
This week’s ultimate question: What is written in the stone?
As Earth Wind and Fire inspires all human beings to be better people, they also inspire this week’s ultimate question to be answered in exactly 42 words in the microstories challenge and to be used as an optional prompt in the nonfiction and fiction | poetry challenges.
Your 42-word micro must answer the question without referring to the question in any way, including prefaces, footnotes, titles, subtitles, calls home to your mother. Just do not bring it up, but still answer it. That’s why it’s called a challenge.
This week’s schedule:
Sunday: kickoff post containing contest outline and ultimate question
Monday: nonfiction challenge grid opens
Tuesday: fiction and poetry grid opens
Wednesday: microstories grid opens
Thursday: all challenge grids open for the popular vote
Friday: the week’s top scoring entries are announced in the winners’ post with the crowd favorite taking first position on the voting grids
Saturday: our weekend community free-for-all hangout grid opens for business

Yay, I’m excited. 🙂
Just a few questions, entries for any/all categories can be dated no earlier than today, right?
And I’ve been really wondering, are Yeah Write Editors eligible to win any of the prizes at all, or is it only regular non-editor participants who are eligible? Just wondering, in the interests of fairness.
Thanks so much. Looking forward to this. 🙂
Hi there! Nonfiction, fiction and poetry, and microstory entries need to be dated between today and Wednesday night when we stop accepting submissions. Our Moonshine grid does allow posts from any time, but the Moonshine grid is not a part of our writing contest.
No, yeah write editors are not eligible for any prizes in the contest, but our entries can be voted crowd favorite. So you’ll see us on the competitive grids.
So excited to have you with us, Briefwords! Welcome!
Thanks so much for your replies Nate, and thanks so much for answering my questions. I really appreciate the welcome.
