Do what I tell you!
Do you ever find yourself yelling that at the computer screen or notebook page, while your characters resolutely refuse to participate in the plot? Do your stories feel wooden when you’re done, even if the characters go where you tell them to? Is “maybe a little OOC” your most used tag on the transformative works platform of your choice?
You can do better.
Spend an afternoon (or morning, depending on your time zone!) with Rowan learning how to keep your characters on the page and your plot moving forward. As a class you’ll solve problems, tell stories, and learn to set traps for your elusive plot weasels.
Sound good? Let’s take a deeper look.
Tell me more…
Class will be two hours long. The first hour will be mostly lecture; in the second hour students will collaborate to solve plot problems given by the instructor. The class will conclude with an opportunity for students to ask questions about their own characters and stories. Class materials and reading will be minimal – there will be a handout covering what’s covered in class as well as a short list of characters that students will be “meeting” as part of the class.

Schedule
Class runs from 4-6 pm US Pacific time on Sunday, December 13, 2020. (What time is that where I live?)
You’ll receive your handout the weekend before so that you can use it as your class outline. For those who can’t make it to the live session, the video will be archived.
Registration
The class is capped at 15 students. Registration opens for YeahWrite members on November 8, and for everyone else on November 15. All registration closes at 11:59 pm US Eastern Time on December 5.
To register, you’ll need the following:
- A computer, tablet, or other device that can handle a Zoom conference.
- A completed registration form (right under this list).

- Enthusiasm and excitement.
You might want:
- A story that’s been giving you problems.
