Be our Valentine?

There are a lot of writing sites out there, and they’re all different. Some of them provide prompts, some don’t. Some are focused on a genre. Some produce physical publications. Some are for essays, some are for fiction, some are for poetry. Not many do all three. And there are very, very few that have been around as long as yeah write.

What I’m trying to say here is that we know there are a lot of places you can go to get your writing fix, but we like to think we’re one of the best. And part of our pride comes from the quality of writing – and writers – that like to hang out here. In other words, dear yeah writers, we love you dearly and we hope it’s mutual. And if you love us, we bet your friends and fellow writers will too. How about giving us a shout-out on Facebook or Twitter, or sending a personal invitation to a great writer you know? We won’t bite, we promise. (Unless you want us to.)

In return for your love and devotion, we can offer some fancy sparkly badges for our 200th post challenge week! (Don’t forget to grab the code below the badges in the sidebar to include in your post.) And there’s even more glitter for next week’s winners, so make sure to play along this week.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”23846″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”” img_link_target=”_self”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”23844″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”” img_link_target=”_self”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”23845″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”” img_link_target=”_self”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]

This week’s ultimate question: Who do you love?

Yeah, yeah, we know it’s grammatically incorrect. Still. Answer this question in exactly 42 words for the gargleblaster micro challenge, or use it to inspire your submission to the other competitive grids.

Tips for your microstories

Wanna know how much we love you? This week’s question requires only one thing for a good answer: the object of your affection. But pay attention: we’re looking for a who, not a what. So no matter how much you love that deflated football signed by all the Patriots, that’s not going to do it for us. Also note that the verb tense of the answer should match the verb tense of the question. We aren’t interested in your high school crush (unless you’re still in high school) or the guy you met backpacking through Italy 20 years ago.* We want to know who you love right now.

* OK, maybe we do. If it doesn’t answer the microstory challenge in 42 words, give us your love story in the nonfiction challenge, the fiction|poetry grid, or the moonshine if you’re so inclined. We love the love around here.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]

Winners’ round-up

In case you missed them, you can find last week’s yeah write staff picks and crowd favorites all laid out for you on Friday’s winners’ post. Leave the winners some love in the comments. They will love you right back, we guarantee it.

The weekend’s not over: the moonshine grid is still open. Have something to add? Old posts and new are welcome. No moderation, no voting. It’s a laid-back relaxed kind of place. Drop by, share your work, and while you’re there, visit your fellow yeah writers.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]

How yeah write works

We’ve got three competitive challenge grids — nonfiction, fiction|poetry and microstories. They are all moderated. Submissions which do not meet our editorial guidelines will not be passed through to the voting grid.

You can learn more about yeah write in our FAQ.

More than just a weekly writing challenge

Sure, the competitive grids are our bread and butter, but there’s more on the menu. We’re building a community of writers who are continually striving to get better at their craft. The challenge grids are one way to do this. We’ve also got the moonshine weekend writing showcase, which is a great place to let loose and try something new, plus the yeah write coffeehouse — the hippest place on the ‘net to find a writing partner, talk about writing or just hang out with other yeah writers. Head barista Nate serves up a couple shots of espresso every week, specially formulated to get your creative juices flowing. Grab a chair and start chatting up your neighbors!
