Week Two of the November writing contest!
We’re spicing up the grids with a little competition, and so far we’re pretty excited by the results. Want to know who’s in the running so far? Here’s a sneak peek at the current contenders. No recognizable avatars, and it’s sorted strictly by genre. Hover over each thumbnail to preview the semi-finalists. If you see your Week One entry, congratulations! You’ve made it through to the next round.
Did you miss Week One of the writing contest?
No problem! Over the four weeks, our editors will be selecting the top three pieces. If you enter in Week Three, but leave the Weeks One and Two writers in the dust? There’s a place for you in the final selections. Sign up with our entry form, subscribe to our weekly email blast if you haven’t already, and jump into the competition.
Remember:
- You must be a subscriber to the yeah write weekly email blast to be eligible for any of the prizes. If you haven’t already subscribed, here’s the link.
- You may submit one piece to each of the three competitive grids, but you must fill out this entry form for each submission. Note: no entry form means you won’t get moved to the voting grid this week, no matter how awesomely awesome your piece is. Please be sure to submit your form before the grids close at 10:00 PM Eastern [ -5 GMT].

Did we say prizes?
We’ve got everything from cash to books to chocolate on the line for the winners. New to yeah write? Tell us who referred you and get them to sign up for our email blast. If you win, your referrer will win too! Many many thanks to our contest prize donors: anonymous friends, Victoria Barrett of Engine Books, Myfanwy Collins, and Lindt Chocolate.
What’s this about a vote?
Although the winning entries will be determined by our editorial staff panel, you can still earn bragging rights by winning the popular vote which takes place on Thursdays. Remember: yeah write is not a popularity contest, so no self-voting, no targeted voting, and no campaigning for your own entry.

We’re building a community of writers who are continually striving to get better at their craft. The challenge grids are one way to do this. We’ve also got the moonshine weekend writing showcase, which is a great place to let loose and try something new, plus the yeah write coffeehouse — the hippest place on the ‘net to find a writing partner, talk about writing or just hang out with other yeah writers. Head barista Nate serves up a couple shots of espresso every week, specially formulated to get your creative juices flowing. Grab a chair and start chatting up your neighbors![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_text_separator title=”Week #187 ultimate question” title_align=”separator_align_center” color=”violet”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]
This week’s ultimate question: What’s in it for me?
Answer this question in exactly 42 words for the gargleblaster micro challenge, or use it to inspire your submission to the other competitive grids. The nonfiction challenge opens on Monday, the speakeasy fiction|poetry challenge opens on Tuesday and the gargleblaster micro challenge opens on Wednesday.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]
