Turning of the seasons

Everybody has something they love about fall. For Stacie D., it’s the changing colors of the leaves. For Rowan G., it’s all about the pumpkin spice lattes and the ubiquity of nutmeg. Me? I’m all about the boots. It’s boot season, people.

The other thing I love about fall? There’s a kind of anticipation in the air, like we’re just on the edge of something new and exciting. It carries over into everything from school to work to weekends. And it’s affecting us here at yeah write, too, so stick around and see what we have in store for the fall writing season!

Fiction returns to yeah write

The speakeasy is coming home to yeah write, folks, and we couldn’t be more excited to be all under one roof again. Starting next week, you’ll find our favorite fictional booze hall on the menu with the non-fiction and micro challenges. Speakeasy regulars, sign up for the yeah write e-mail blast and follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

Prizes, prizes, prizes!

To celebrate the return of fall – and the speakeasy – we will be hosting a four-week writing challenge on each grid: non-fiction, fiction|poetry and micro starting on October 19. The winner of the challenge can win $100 cash. If you invite a friend to the challenge and your friend wins? You each get $100 cash: your friend for winning and you for referring the winner.

Additional prizes are rolling in, so stay tuned for more. If you have any prizes you’d like to donate, please email us.

This week’s ultimate question: what would your mother say?

Answer this question in exactly 42 words for the gargleblaster micro challenge, or use it to inspire your submission to the non-fiction challenge grid.

Winners round-up

In case you missed them, you can find the yeah write #181 editors’ picks and crowd favorites all laid out for you on Friday’s winners post. Go ahead, leave the winners some love in the comments!

The weekend’s not over: the moonshine grid is still open. Have something to add? Old posts and new are welcome. Go add yours, and while you’re there, visit your fellow yeah writers.

Submission guidelines

The yeah write challenge grids — non-fiction, fiction and micro — are moderated. Submissions which do not meet our editorial guidelines will not be passed through to the voting grid. Though the focus of each challenge grid is different, there are a couple of things that we are looking for across the board: compelling stories with a strong “so what” that are free from grammatical errors and that demonstrate exceptional attention to structure and language. Posts must be written specifically for the challenge, and may not be dated earlier than today. Yeah write does not accept commercial and sponsored posts.

If you need a second pair of eyes to look your piece over, we encourage you to visit the yeah write coffeehouse to find a writing partner.
