It’s open submissions this week!

It’s Memorial Day here in the United States, a day for remembrance for those who died while serving in the U.S. military. The American flag will be flown at half-mast, and it’s a bank and school holiday.

Here at yeah write, in observance of the holiday, the editors will be around, but we will not be formally accepting or rejecting your submissions. Instead of a submissions grid and a voting grid, there will be one open grid for your stories that meet our guidelines: no more than 1,000 words and a clear reason for telling the story. The optional prompt for this week is “where are the cats?”

I will be spending the holiday working on a design project, getting off my freelancer’s couch for a little exercise, and cleaning my house with my children. I may take my dog to the dog park, but with all the hallowed observances of this somber holiday across the country, I am more than a little sure the dog park will be very crowded. Mourners throwing frisbees and cooling their beer in the backs of their SUVs.

Fiction | poetry opens Tuesday, microstories opens Wednesday

These challenges will also be open submissions as long as you meet the guidelines. Why not spend this week trying to write for all three challenges? It’s great practice for three different genres and an excellent way to meet and greet the yeah write editors. Many of us visit each entry on our grids, leaving supportive and constructive comments. If you’re feeling lonely and you just want to say hi, you can always email us at getsocial@yeahwrite.me

Voting will open on Thursday

It’s open submissions, but there will still be a vote for your three favorites in each challenge. Please come back Thursday to read each entry in the challenge you are voting on, maybe leave a comment or two on those entries, then vote. Winners’ post will be published Friday.
