It’s the weekend, so the moonshine grid is open

Hey there, my favorite drinkers of bathtub gin. So maybe you’ve noticed already, but we’ve been overhauling yeah write. We’re tidying things up, tightening production values and getting back to our roots: showcasing the talents of writers who blog and bloggers who write. Our new web design is clean and elegant, and I’m quite fond of it already. I hope you like it as much as I do.

Moonshine never changes

Though yeah write may be going through some major changes, some things will never change. We will always celebrate skillful writing, we will always serve bathtub gin, and we won’t change the moonshine. The moonshine will remain open submissions, which means you can post whatever you want. It can be a 1K word exposition about the quality of your local farmer’s market, or a 200 word rant about your PTA’s latest decision to hand make all the crafts for your third grader’s Halloween party; it can be last year’s reflection on the beauty of fall leaves or a photo essay exposing your local waste treatment plant. The moonshine is home to posts of all types, except one: no commercial or sponsored posts.

Fall season writing contest coming October 19

For those ready to venture out of the safety of the unmoderated moonshine, get ready to dust off your writing skills. To celebrate our fourth fall season, we will be hosting a four-week writing challenge on each grid: non-fiction, fiction|poetry and micro. The winner of the challenge can win $100 cash. If you invite a friend to the challenge and your friend wins instead of you? You each get the $100 cash: your friend for winning and you for referring the winner to yeah write. At this writing, there will be one winner across all three challenges, and you can enter all three throughout the four-week period. What I would do, though, is concentrate on entering 2-4 really solid pieces during that time (as opposed to 12) and bringing in as many writer friends as possible. Either you will win outright, earning the winner’s 100 bucks or one of your referrals will win, earning you 100 bucks.

Right now, we have $200 in prizes, but hopefully by the time the contest kicks off, we’ll have more to award the best writers on each grid. If the winner arrives at yeah write without a referral (or has been around so long, we are the referrer), we’ll keep that money for another writing contest. Spread the word. More details and explanations coming by yeah write #180, including news of loosening up someone else’s wallet. Spirits are generous around good writing. If you have any prizes you’d like to donate, please email us.

This is the badge you are looking for

Over in the left sidebar is a list of yeah write badges containing the codes you need to satisfy the backlink requirement (also called a permalink) of the Inlinkz app. The badge for the moonshine looks like this:

moonshine

Under the badge is a few lines of code. Copy that exactly then paste it into the “text” or HTML view of your post editor. If you don’t copy it exactly, you will get an error message from the Inlinkz app. If you get confused or your browser is uncooperative, visit the Inlinkz step-by-step instructions here. If all else fails, contact Inlinkz customer support.
