Greetings Earthlings!
I’ve had a lovely little trip around the galaxy, but I have to tell you, it feels good to put my feet back on solid ground and my fingers back on my keyboard. A little bit of a break is nice – it gives me perspective, lets my brain refresh itself and my shoulders unknot. But by the time I get back, I sometimes find I’m out of practice. It’s a challenge to get moving again.
Marcy L – last week’s crowd favorite and editor’s pick – talked about exiling beloved lines and phrases that she can’t work into her current piece. I do this by keeping a running log of things I’ve excised from my own writing. When I’m stuck for a place to start, I take a peek and see if I can resurrect one of my own murdered darlings. And so I’m anticipating a bit of grave-robbing this week. What about you?

Answer the ultimate question in exactly 42 words: who let the dogs out?
This week’s question requires only one thing for a good answer: a person who let the dogs out. You can embellish a story about why the dogs got out or their subsequent canine capers, but you must feature a person who, for whatever reason, let the dogs out.
A few other reminders:
PROOFREAD. Nothing is easier, and nothing will get you bumped from the voting grid faster than typos, spelling or punctuation mistakes, or grammatical errors. You’ve only got 42 words; mistakes stick out.
Keep in mind that your post has to make sense if your reader doesn’t know the question. Don’t use the question as your title or anywhere else in your piece. And remember, any words surrounding your gargleblaster — explanations, references, footnotes, shout-outs, etc. — will be counted against your 42-word limit.

There seems to be a bit of a cross-up with the ultimate question and the follow-up explanation. Just checking before submitting, but does the question remain, “Who let the dogs out?”
Hi Steven! Sorry, that was my fault – I forgot to replace the text in the explanation. You’re correct: the question is “Who let the dogs out?” Sorry for the confusion! We fixed the error and hopefully nobody got too mixed up…
