Crazy of me to think there would be a drop off in lovelinks entries during Christmahanukwanzaakah preparations, eh? Not only was there no decrease, we met twelve virgins who boosted participation. Twelve virgins and a partridge in a pear tree. That’s a whole lotta holiday spirit, and I thank all the lovelinks vets who invited them.
I promised digital songs from iTunes or Amazon to each lovelinks vet who brought me an out-of-their-genre virgin, and the newbie would get one, too. I expected to buy two songs. I now owe Apple and Amazon three million dollars, but it’s all in the name of spreading the lovelinks cheer. The bloggers and the songs they chose will be in Friday’s winners’ post.
How lovelinks voting works
Everybody gets three votes. Depending on your browser, there will be a yellow star either above each thumbnail or below it. Clicking on the thumbnail will take you to the post so you can read it before voting for it. Clicking on the star will cast your vote. The page will refresh—that’s a quirk of the linkup program—then you’ll have to find your way back to the thumbnail matrix to vote twice more. After three yellow star clicks, you’ll be done without fanfare (another linkup program quirk) and you’re free to campaign for your three favorites.
If you have any problems at all with voting, email me or send me a direct message on Twitter with your three choices, and I’ll place them for you.
Voting closes on Thursday at 9 p.m. U.S. eastern standard time [-5 GMT]. The winners will be announced in a blog post on Friday: editor’s choice, lurker’s favorite chosen by my friend Flood and popular choice based on the highest number of votes.
Comment karma
This is also the week I’m introducing comment karma in addition to the other karma points you guys can accumulate each week. You can’t earn comment karma by sheer quantity: leaving comment after comment on all the posts won’t work. That much I know. Other than that, I’ll just be cruising all the entered blogs looking for love in all the wrong places, looking for love in too many faces, searching her eyes looking for traces of what I’m dreaming of. Hoping to find a friend and a lover, I bless the day I discovered you, oh, you looking for love. I love that song. Which has nothing to do with anything. My fingers just typed all that out for kicks.
Comment karma is worth two karma points. As a reminder: turning off moderated comments on your own blog allows for wonderful discussion to bloom in your comments even while you’re on a liquor run and it clears up back acne. It really is a miracle drug.
[EDIT] Is it because I mentioned sacred karma and the corner liquor store in the same sentence that comments on my own blog are now broken? I did not mean to offend anyone, especially any god who would let Tim Tebow keep winning to the detriment of starving children everywhere. And why is God paying such close attention to the Denver Broncos when the Houston Texans are seeking in Jesus’ name a first-round playoff bye with a third-string rookie quarterback? We need divine intervention more than Tebow does. Suck it, poor kids.]
Lovelinks #35 is open for voting.
