Well, as the saying goes: new to me.

It’s a 2009 Kia Optima that gets me out of the million dollar a month rental car I’ve been driving to and from my writing assignment everyday. It’s a nice replacement for my 2008 Toyota Highlander that I lost in a perfect storm of recession layoffs and hubris. There’s an outlet for my iPod, a tray for my iPhone, there is a hook below the glove compartment on which to hang my purse. Suck on that, double-dip recession. I’m back.

Oh, wait. So is the hubris, looks like. Let me rephrase: I’m extremely grateful for the second chance, both for financing this car and for providing transportation for my children. Thanks to Bob at Honda of Clear Lake, my dad’s “second signature” and Q my constant encourager who is proud of me even during my myriad fuck-ups. I am delighted that Kia thought enough of me to place a sturdy hook near the passenger seat designed for my bag so I no longer have to search the backseat for it once I’ve arrived at my destination.
