Back-to-school shopping this year involved exactly three stores: Office Depot, Target and Chico’s.
I wasn’t feeling the love of going up and down and around and around in the school supply section of Target only to find it was out of Classic Crayola markers with the only ones in stock being tropical neon colors with nuclear banana yellow, so I hit the Internet with the search “online school supply shopping” and discovered Office Depot had that shit handled. Fiskar 5th grade scissors, assorted colors construction paper (12×18), 5-Star notebooks and black ballpoint pens in packs of 12.
Free delivery, too? Done and done.
Super Target will see me for clothes, though. I hate the mall, I’m no longer of the French boutique milieu, and it’s so easy to run into Target throwing six t-shirts at a time into the shopping cart next to the Mike’s hard lemonade and frozen waffles while tossing in a few packs of boys’ boxer briefs on the way to the register. Grabbing a bag or two of oranges from the produce section makes that a good trip.
Chico’s: I can thank my mother-in-law for saving Jordan from those low-waisted teen jeans that fall off Jordan’s non-skinny butt every few steps. The size zero demin crops are the perfect fit without looking like mom jeans and with Q’s yearly contribution of school shoes, my buttercup will enter 10th grade looking quite the junior fashionista. Q and Nana figured out either I don’t have the best taste in kids’ clothing or I don’t have time to make good choices. They’ve rescued all three of my children from the vagabond look, and they all look so cute. Annual first day of school pictures coming next week.
Have you been thinking about the posts you’re going to enter in the upcoming prize lovelinks? You can enter up to two each week for a total of six, which might be a little tricky since I’m limiting the total entries each week to 100. Can you imagine a lovelinks week with 100 entries? Neither can I unless I’m dreaming big, but you never know.
I’m slowly but surely recruiting the panel of bloggers who will judge the final week and choose the winner. I want five judges, I have two three. I’ll start twisting arms next week.
Lovelinks #19 is open for submissions... voting
I did my voting! Good luck everyone!

I’m so glad my grandkids go to private school. Uni’s are not what I do! The eldest, Cyrus, age 18, has a summer job which will pay for his college togs. The “littles” all can get grammy to give them wonderful party clothes! With my own kids, “Toughskins” at Sears were the best buy around. My daughter waited until she was 9 or so to ask for the Gloria Vanderbilt jeans. Hah! It could have been worse.
Toughskins! Ah, memories…

This is probably why I just hide at home shopping for everything on Amazon…

I wrapped up loose ends of school shopping for my youngest at Target today myself. A handful of tank tops, 2 bra’s , 2 liters of Pepsi and a loaf a bread.

We are over halfway through back-to-school shopping. My middle child starts kindergarten so 2 out of the 3 will be in school all day? What will I do with all my time??? I wait – my 20-month-old is just about to tip over our sofa table… yep! That’s what I’ll be doing with my time (damage control for the 20-month-old!)
P.S. Wish we had a Super Target? Is there REALLY such a thing? 🙂
Yes, Kate, there is such a thing as Super Target. Miles and miles of budget-busting consumerism. Do not shop for groceries there unless you have a grant from the Gates Foundation.

If the prizes are anything like mine was, the whole wide web should enter! M house still smells nice. And I have not even light up the candle. It is like magic or something…
The prize is a spot in The Bloggess sidebar for a month. Doesn’t smell as nice, but still kinda magic!

I loved the paragraph about Target. They need to include that in their next ad campaign. It’s perfect.

Hey there I’m still hellishly busy but didn’t want to miss another week. About to run around the entries! Glad to see you are keeping going – have given it a tweet too!
Hmm, delivery. Why didn’t I think of that???

I have it easy: my kid’s school asks you to give them a cheque for $50 and they provide all the school supplies. Sweet!
FYI: it is my birthday today. I am pimping for some birthday love, yo 😉
Jon Alex’s school offers the same service sponsored by the PTA. This is the second year I’ve forgotten to send the check before the deadline. Happy birthday, Carrie!

I had it sooo easy this year! The Hubs took care of it. ALL of it. All I had to buy was shoes (because she IS a mermaid and has fins for feet) and shirts (and bras. Shhhh). Easy as pie. Although, I’m a little miffed that he found pants to fit her so easily, which is why I gave up in the first place.

Busy shopping week for you! Thank God my kids aren’t in school yet. Well, it’ll happen soon enough.
