Yay 13!

Jon Alex was born on Friday the 13th in July 10 years ago next week, so I’m all sentimental about the number. It seems fitting that as I was planning lovelinks #13, Jon Alex was busy getting lost in our neighborhood trying to walk to his friend Ryan’s house who, please let me add, does not live within walking distance. We are without a car in the moment, so I was out on Jordan’s bike (mine is on flat tires in the garage because I am just that much of a cyclist) looking for my boy while trying not to panic. He’d been gone more than an hour and we’d ordered sushi.

I called Ryan’s mom and asked if she had JA and of course she didn’t because why would he call first to say he was on his way and why would he tell his own mother of his plans before leaving on his journey in 100 degree heat with no shoes on? Ryan’s dad hopped in his car and, being the smart dad, looked for Jon Alex on the main neighborhood street first before zipping through the side streets. Found him 10 minutes later. Walking back home, no shoes, no phone, no sense of direction to get to Ryan’s house in the first place.

As I was making my way home to call the sheriff’s department, before I got the found him phone call, I was doing two things: mentally searching the Internet for a counselor who specialized in sexually abused boys—I figured Jon Alex would need one after he was discovered barely conscious but alive in the nearby woods (we don’t live near any wooded areas)—and running through my blogging Rolodex wondering who would take over lovelinks while Mel Gibson and Danny Glover interviewed me and collected evidence from JA’s bedroom as they prepared a dogged police search for my missing child.

The Lifetime Movie Network saga ended as Jon Alex was escorted home in a big ol’ black Hummer with Ryan’s dad delivering the climatic line: I believe I have someone who belongs to you. As the credits rolled, my boy and I walked inside, grabbed our Asian diner delivery that had been waiting for us on the kitchen counter, then watched Ehren’s Care Bears movie for the 18th time in 36 hours. And I wrote my lovelinks post as usual, no guest host required.

Lovelinks #13 is open for submissions voting.
