Marcy participated in a challenge entitled ‘101 Things in 1001 Days’ where she tackled 101 challenges that she had been “too timid, too squeamish, or – let’s face it – too lazy to complete.”
See what she did there?
Marcy did everything from a fish pedicure to a trip to Greece and even vegan cake pops (yum)! Her favorite challenge, and one that I would love to do myself, was to travel alone at least overnight. She ended up expanding this to a week-long trip on her own to Costa Rica.
“When I first made my list, I would have found it difficult to just go to New York or Boston on my own for one night, but I gained so much confidence throughout the challenge that I ended up doing more. I never used to imagine that I could enjoy traveling alone, but there are many great sides to being the only one to decide what to do.”
The challenge that scared her the most was zorbing which involved rolling down a hill in a gigantic plastic ball. She felt incredibly nervous about it for weeks beforehand but luckily it turned out to be fun and easy.
Make sure to check out her challenge page and read all about her adventures. Perhaps you’ll try a few for yourself!
Even though her challenge is over, it doesn’t mean Marcy has gone back to her timid and squeamish ways. This past summer, she hiked the Inca Trail with her husband and teenage boys.
Am I the only one here that is jealous of all the fun Marcy seems to be having?
With all these future travel plans and rolling around in giant plastic balls, I have to wonder what all this means for Marcy’s blog. Now that the challenge is over, what will she do next?
Marcy also has a request for her blog. She would like to feature other people’s stories of breaking out of their comfort zones in the form of handmade postcards (similar to PostSecret). Read all about it and then send Marcy your own postcard!
Make sure you follow Marcy’s blog at (Don’t Be) Too Timid and Squeamish. She writes about trying to get out of her comfort zone, new challenges, and experiences that will help her become less timid and squeamish, and writing her memoirs, one scene at a time. She is a teacher living in Connecticut.
Five more things you didn’t know about Marcy:
- All her life, she thought she hated beets, but she finally tried them roasted, and they were delicious.
- She hates moths. They’re gross.
- She drank Scotch with Norman Mailer.
- She was in her college hang gliding club.
- She’s a zombie.
