Challenge v. speakeasy
The grids open Tuesday, and the challenge grid is where we want to see your personal essays and traditional blog anecdotes. Choose moments and stories that will show off your writer’s voice. Submit your fiction and poetry over at the speakeasy – your first line has already been written! Even if fiction isn’t what you want to write, we’re sure you’ll want to read it. Visit the blogs – you’ll be glad you did. In the mood for anything goes? The moonshine grid has just what you need.
Open submissions
The process of open submissions has permanently returned to yeah write. We have stopped asking you to queue up to get on the grid, but all submission guidelines and FAQ still apply. A plea: yeah write is a jealous mistress. Please refrain from sharing your “written just for yeah write” posts with other link-ups. Thank you ever so much. The subject matter is up to you as long as it has a tightly written introduction, a clearly defined story line, and doesn’t try to sell us something or bore us to death. Find the funny or unusual or poignant in the mundane. Writing well about the ho-hum of everyday life is the challenge of the challenge grid.
Before you start your winning submission
Save your time by not reading blogs that aren’t written by those who are well-read, and try the best you can to worship at the Less is More altar. And it bears repeating: We love great stories, and we shed bitter tears when some mar their beauty with misspellings and grammar from an alternate reality. Before you publish, read it once in your head and once out loud. It will help. We promise. Make this week your most excellent yet! Bring us your best stuff; don’t settle for less.
Read well, write well, rewrite often. Yeah write #98 weekly writing challenge grid opens Tuesday.
