No more hidden badges
Finding the badges you’ll need for your yeah write submission is easier than ever: look over in the sidebar toward the middle of the page. Look down a little. You just found them. Grab the code for the grid you’re joining and paste that code into the HTML view of the post you’re submitting this week. Save and/or publish your post. You post should be badged and ready to link on Tuesday to either grid. Whew.
Flood’s Speakeasy
Yeah write submissions editor Flood G has taken over the hangout grid and renamed it The Speakeasy. Her welcome post sums it up very nicely, so please read it and invite your friends to join you for unlimited awesomeness. The Speakeasy will be perfect for those who want to bring their best stuff, who want to read and be read, but who may not want to be confined by the guidelines of the challenge grid. And who definitely aren’t interested in the competitive aspect of the challenge grid.
Feeling easy and yet kinda vote-y at the same time?
Flood is inviting challenge grid submissions onto the speakeasy grid during the same week. Once your challenge grid submission is accepted, you are free to add the speakeasy badge and link to the speakeasy grid. Or, cover your bases and link both at the same time. Just make sure you’ll have enough time to read each challenge grid submission in preparation for voting later in the week. Because The Speakeasy is hosted on a different domain from yeah write, you’ll need both badges in your post to meet the Inlinkz backlink requirement.
The challenge grid has returned
No more worries about writing to a prompt unless you work better that way. No more trying to squeeze your Nobel-worthy storytelling into 500 words. The prompts are now optional and the word-limit has increased to a hard count of 1,000 words. The moderation has not gone away. The midnight rush to the grid certainly has. It’ll take everyone a little while to get used to how it works around here these days as opposed to a few months ago.
Once we adjust and the grid is back at full speed of 50 published submissions, we’ll award your patience and hard work by offering a $100 Amazon gift card as the big prize in a four-week, cumulative points writing challenge. We gotta get back to 50 on the grid, though, and you know we’ll lose some old regulars in the shuffle, so spread the word to your writer friends.
Yeah write #71 opens Tuesday.

[check_list]
- Do not mention anywhere in your post, either as intro or footnote, that you are writing to a prompt.
- We want the story the furthest away in your imagination from the original prompt. Let your imagination loose.
- Keep your writing style! Do you tell stories with humor? Prose? Verse? Photos? Illustrations? Keep doing that.

What fun this is. I love it. I am so grateful to this community of readers and writers.. Yeah write is a new “best friend” in my life.!! I never get much response to my writing from Facebook. This is just the sort of stimulation this gal needs !! I love the posts on my blog too…so awesome !
Love the new style of prompt. Nobody will accuse you guys of not being able to think outside the box!
so, this is like the summer series? i post pretty much any essay that i like, within the above guidelines, with a badge at the bottom…? do i need to be invited to the challenge grid?
and basically, the difference between the challenge and the speakeasy is that challenge is judged?
do i have that right?
You don’t need an invitation to join the challenge grid. You can post to both the challenge and the speakeasy. The speakeasy is not a competitive grid. You’ll need both badges to post to both grids because the required backlinks are different. Have fun!
Ooooh! I’m looking forward to this! Before the summer series I was never able to make it on to the Challenge Grid because I’d go back into a post for one final edit or do something else crazy like blink or nap and the grid would be full.
Normally I am not a fan of change, but these are fun times around here! Love that Flood is taking over The Speakeasy (great name) and after the summer’s hard cap of 500 words, 1000 will feel like a luxury! Kudos to y’all!
Just remember to make every word count!
Nicely done. Keeping it fresh.
Ooh! Exciting!
And I love the retitling to The Speakeasy — it feels so naughty in a good way…
Cheers to all and have a super week of great reading and writing!
Ooh! Word, photo, and color prompts?? I feel an electric current rushing across the Yeah Write world. What WILL happen this week on the grids??
