It’s yellow star voting time! For those of you who are new and for those of you who may need reminders, here’s how it works:
[stextbox id=”yellow_star” mode=”js” shadow=”true” bcolor=”a99ea4″ bgcolor=”cecfd4″ bgcolorto=”e6e4e4″]Everybody gets three votes. For three separate blogs.[/stextbox]
[stextbox id=”yellow_star” mode=”js” shadow=”true” bcolor=”a99ea4″ bgcolor=”cecfd4″ bgcolorto=”e6e4e4″]Depending on your browser, there will be a yellow star above or below each thumbnail. Click on the thumbnail to read the post, click the star to vote.[/stextbox]
[stextbox id=”yellow_star” mode=”js” shadow=”true” bcolor=”a99ea4″ bgcolor=”cecfd4″ bgcolorto=”e6e4e4″]After each click of the yellow star, the page will refresh. You’ll have to make your way back down to the grid, then click another yellow star. After three yellow star clicks, the stars will disappear, and you’re done![/stextbox]
[stextbox id=”yellow_star” mode=”js” shadow=”true” bcolor=”a99ea4″ bgcolor=”cecfd4″ bgcolorto=”e6e4e4″]For whatever reason, yeah write voting does not work well with mobile browsers, including iPads and tablets. If you need me to register your votes for you, please email me or send a Twitter DM and I’ll take care of it.[/stextbox]
[stextbox id=”yellow_star” mode=”js” shadow=”true” bcolor=”a99ea4″ bgcolor=”cecfd4″ bgcolorto=”e6e4e4″]Unless there is a glitch, voting on your own post should be disabled. Some people never knew that, and that’s fine. I delete all the self-votes in the interest of fairness.[/stextbox]
[stextbox id=”yellow_star” mode=”js” shadow=”true” bcolor=”a99ea4″ bgcolor=”cecfd4″ bgcolorto=”e6e4e4″]And, unless there is a glitch, there are only three votes per IP address. Once you vote one time for three different entries at home on your desktop, technically you’ve also voted on your iPad, Kindle, laptop, XBox and microwave oven. If you’re at work sharing an IP address with your senior director, she’s voted, too.[/stextbox]
[stextbox id=”yellow_star” mode=”js” shadow=”true” bcolor=”a99ea4″ bgcolor=”cecfd4″ bgcolorto=”e6e4e4″]When there are duplicate votes somehow for the same blog from the same IP address, if the Inlinkz application doesn’t catch and delete, I do it myself. During these tiny weekly competitions, that’s not a big problem. It only becomes an issue when the prizes are more valuable, and people are more eager to game the system. No matter: in the interest of fairness, I validate the votes.[/stextbox]
[stextbox id=”yellow_star” mode=”js” shadow=”true” bcolor=”a99ea4″ bgcolor=”cecfd4″ bgcolorto=”e6e4e4″]Yeah, there is a comment karma badge, but remember: don’t feel obligated to leave a comment on every single entry. We discourage drive-by comments, plus not every yeah write blog is gonna be your cup of tea. If you don’t like a yeah write blog, back away gently. There is no such thing as a yeah write troll.[/stextbox]
[stextbox id=”yellow_star” mode=”js” shadow=”true” bcolor=”a99ea4″ bgcolor=”cecfd4″ bgcolorto=”e6e4e4″]Having said that: you guys are awesome for getting involved in the discussions so thoughtfully and/or humorously, and that’s why I created the badge.[/stextbox]
[stextbox id=”yellow_star” mode=”js” shadow=”true” bcolor=”a99ea4″ bgcolor=”cecfd4″ bgcolorto=”e6e4e4″]Using your blog, Twitter, Facebook and other social media, you can encourage your readers, friends, fans and followers to come vote for you; just remember to ask them to vote for another two favorite entries while they’re here.[/stextbox]
[stextbox id=”yellow_star” mode=”js” shadow=”true” bcolor=”a99ea4″ bgcolor=”cecfd4″ bgcolorto=”e6e4e4″]Please no vote bombing. I know it’s tempting to get the word out that you’re in this cool contest, but it’s not exactly a contest like the Interwebs defines the word contest. It’s not a contest to see how many votes you can steer your way. [/stextbox]
[stextbox id=”yellow_star” mode=”js” shadow=”true” bcolor=”a99ea4″ bgcolor=”cecfd4″ bgcolorto=”e6e4e4″]It’s our humble attempt to share your blog with a new audience and, in the process, introduce our blogs to your readers. And if those people arrive solely to zero in on your thumbnail, we are all missing the point of yeah write and missing a wonderful opportunity to say, hey, I’ve found this great group of people—come meet them.[/stextbox]
Friday’s winners
- editor’s choice: Erica M being completely subjective and choosing the one post she likes most
- lurker’s favorite: Flood G choosing her favorite
- lurker’s favorite: Erica M’s husband Q choosing his favorite
- popular vote winner: grandma coming through for you just in time, right before her Bunco night starts
- comment karma: not the most comments by a yeah writer, but the overall most thoughtful, witty, wonderful, whatever—we’ll know it when I read it
Yeah write #44 is open for voting. Be careful out there.
This is a guest post from Q.
Thanks for having me this week! I seriously loved it and you all may now be blamed for yet another addiction!!
Wait! “I’m not seeing stars” anymore.
It must’ve worked.
I’m not sure if my votes got accepted or not – I voted earlier and yet “I saw stars” again this afternoon – so I voted again – and “I’m still seeing stars.” Better fix this or I will be compelled to vote and vote. Something about clicking on those little gold stars is downright addictive…!
Just voted! So many good ones, it was hard for me to choose again.
I think I actually managed to visit everyone this week! I guess waking up a 4am has its advantages. Good luck everyone!
I’ve been a terrible Yeah Write-er this week – too many other blogging commitments. I probably shouldn’t have even linked up, as I’ve only been able to read a few. But the few I’ve read have been fantastic – loved Ado’s very raw, very moving post about growing up as the child of an alcoholic. And Kvetch Mom’s endearing neuroses (this time at The Gap) made me laugh AGAIN. Going to try to catch up on a few more today. Otherwise, I deserve three lashings with a wet noodle for over-commiting myself this week.
Loved so many. Still trying to find Erica’s currency to make her give us more votes. Cheese cake?!
Good luck to everyone! As usual, a killer collection of works 🙂
