Welcome to summertime here at yeah write

Yeah, technically, summer here in the northern hemisphere starts June 21, but your editors are working on a resort schedule this year, and we went into summer mode on U.S. Memorial Day at the end of May. What does that mean for our readers, writers and lurkers? It’s open submissions!

What’s open submissions?

Instead of your wonderful personal essay or mostly true story traveling through our standard submissions procedure of being reviewed and critiqued by our submissions editor before moving your entry from the submissions grid to the voting grid, we are sending our gatekeeper on vacation. Your entry will appear immediately on the voting grid, and it will be subject to the popular vote on Thursday (unless you completely ignored our submission guidelines).

In other words, we’re simplifying everything for you and for us because it’s hot and we can’t find our favorite flip flops and some of us are kind of cranky during the summer months. At least one editor lives below sea level right on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico where it’s summer eight months out of the year and there are hurricanes and mosquitoes and what people in polite company call water bugs but they are actually flying German cockroaches, and open submissions is the best thing that could ever happen to her. It’s time.

First time here?

Welcome! Yeah write is a pretty tight-knit community, yet we are open and excited to meet new writers and readers and commenters. Visit a bit, read a lot, let us know what you need to get started. We are very happy you’re here.

Questions?

We know you have them. We don’t mind. We are on vacation, but we’re not dead. Ask us anything at getsocial@yeahwriteme or visit us on our Facebook page or in our Twitter stream.

yeah write #216 weekly writing challenge is open for nonfiction submissions

How to submit and fully participate in the challenge:

  1. In the sidebar of this week’s post, please grab the code beneath the nonfiction badge and paste it into the HTML view of your entry
  2. Follow the Inlinkz instructions after clicking “add your link” to upload your entry to this week’s challenge grid
  3. Your entry should appear immediately on the grid if you don’t receive an error message
  4. Please make the rounds to read all the entries in this week’s challenge
  5. Consider turning off moderated comments and CAPTCHA on your own blog

This summer, all our challenges are unmoderated which means all submissions meeting the basic guidelines will be published Thursday on yeah write. We still want to see your best stuff, and those entries will be open to a popular vote with the winner celebrated on Friday.

Thank you for sharing with us your hard work! Good luck in the challenge…
