Greetings Fellow Earthlings!

It’s 86 degrees and 73% humidity in Chicago right now, the first real dog day of summer. I’ve been laughing at my cats all frizzed out and belly up on the bathroom tile tonight. Well, I was laughing until I realized I’ve moved less than they have. I’m not complaining— we’ve had gorgeous weather up until today. But the heat’s causing some issues: it’s mucking up my brain. So I’d pretty much pay Christine to tell me what to write here to open up the microstory challenge.

You hear that, Christine? Cash. Money. Oh, and there’s another fiver in it for you if you grab a fudgesicle out of the freezer for me.

Answer the ultimate question in exactly 42 words: what did Christine tell you?

This week’s question requires only three things for a good answer: Christine (our beloved editor or otherwise), you and a piece of information she told you. Please note that the verb tense of the answer should match the verb tense of the question. We aren’t looking for what she is telling you right this minute or what she will tell you at some point in the future, but rather, what did she tell you?

A few other reminders:

PROOFREAD. Nothing is easier, and nothing will get you bumped from the voters’ top three than typos, spelling or punctuation mistakes, or grammatical errors. You’ve only got 42 words; mistakes stick out.

Keep in mind that your post has to make sense if your reader doesn’t know the question. Don’t use the question as your title or anywhere else in your piece. And remember, any words surrounding your microstory — explanations, references, footnotes, shout-outs, etc. — will be counted against your 42-word limit.
