Courage

Does writing take courage? Maybe you aren’t charging into “the misty mist or the dusky dusk” (depending on where you live), but you are exposing your inner world to a sometimes judgmental, often distracted outer world.

Writing that risks feeling something takes courage. Experiencing emotion and sharing that with an audience takes courage. A deeper dive into your inner world doesn’t mean your essay has to be longer, nor does it mean that it should be all about you. Want a great example? Take a look at Rowan’s essay, “Fading,” from last week. Courage.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Nonfiction theme of the month:

introspection

Sometimes the biggest changes in our lives are sparked by the smallest things. It’s natural to want to share your moment of epiphany, but how do you fit a thousand words into two seconds without becoming pedantic and repetitive? Read Rowan’s post to learn more.

This week’s ultimate question:

What weighs you down?

This optional prompt, which also serves as the ultimate question for the microstory challenge opening Wednesday, is here to serve as your inspiration for your nonfiction submission. Already have your own story thought up? No problem! The prompt is only there if you need it.
