Writing post-hell week

I ain’t gon’ lie: last week was a rough one, and I am nowhere near recovering from it. Events in the news, family-related stress, and, now, as I’m writing this, finding out Bobbi Kristina Brown has died at the age of 22. What a hard life that girl led, and she was not much older than my nieces and my daughter, and they all could have been sisters. When I was younger, when the world became too depressing, I would shut off the news, stop reading the papers, become oblivious. As an adult, that feels irresponsible. Still, it’s tempting, and I know I should do that when it’s time to write.

But I don’t. I keep the news churning through my head, even the political news where every racist, anti-immigrant, anti-Semitic pandering remark feels like a personal attack. I open my laptop, nothing comes out. Until it does. My writing will always reflect what’s going on in the moment, though I make every attempt for its themes to remain evergreen. When I am reading submissions to yeah write, I am looking for that universality. What’s important to the writer should become important to me as I am being drawn into the piece, even if the events are quite different from those I would  experience.

If last week for you was a breeze, we’re glad you’re here. Tell us about it, but don’t forget your central conflict. If last week for you was like mine, don’t let that stop you from writing. Organize your thoughts, let it all out. The yeah write community is your perfect audience.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
