yeah write virgins!

There were three virgins on the grid this week! Thank you to everyone who’s been spreading the good word of yeah write and thanks to the virgins for working your way around the grid. Please join us again next week.

jury prize winner—invitational grid

Jamie from South Main Muse is our editors’ pick for the inaugural invitational grid here at yeah write for her post The Grief Grenade. It’s a clear-eyed look at the facade we maintain—and the inner dialogue we sustain—when we carry our big events inside of us. Meandering from one commonplace interaction to the next in an otherwise ordinary day, we feel the heaviness of the author’s load, contrasted with the lightness she forces herself to uphold with the tourists whose picture she snaps, or John, the guy at the Lego store, who was “a nice guy just doing his job and didn’t need me to dump a truckload of my-dad-died-today on him.”

Jamie touched on a common theme this week on the grid—death and dying. It’s a subject that often can devolve into the maudlin or the manipulative, but what made Jamie’s post so compelling is that she simply told a story, filled with detail and characters created in a phrase or a sentence. Her heavy subject floated lightly by but still made an impact in short paragraphs, often of only one sentence, that kept her tale flowing forward. In simple words describing the everyday, she showed us the universality of how grief feels, tucked away, because sometimes there’s just “[n]o need to lob a wet-blanket, misplaced grief grenade right in the middle of someone’s good time.”

Feel free to grab the jury prize winner’s badge from the sidebar, Jamie. Well done.

crowd favorite and top row five—challenge grid

Well, this is our very first double win while hosting two separate grids. Congrats, Jamie, on capturing the hearts of the yeah write general voting population. The crowd favorite badge belongs to you.

Part of the top row five? Congratulations! Please display your badge on your blog with as much verve and excitement as possible.  Otherwise the code won’t work and you’ll have that ugly red x in the middle of your page.

Win-win

The thumbnails are now sorted in the grid from most votes to the least. In the case of a tie, the thumbnails are additionally sorted by page views.

Do not be discouraged if your blog has landed near the bottom of the grid; it is always a tight race. The fun lies in getting better exposure for your blog and in the spirit of competition as incentive to improve your writing and blogging skills. It’s a win-win for everybody involved.

Thanks again, everybody, for linking up, for reading, for accepting the weekly writing challenge. And for making yeah write the most welcoming spot on the Interwebs for writers who blog and bloggers who write.

Yeah write #92 weekly writing challenge grid opens Tuesday.

Tell your friends. Bring us your best stuff. See you then.
