Who loves ya, baby?

We do, that’s who! Yes, yeah write is kicking off a new week of writing challenges and saying hello to that month of love, February. How do we love thee? Let us count the ways: your thoughtful poems and fiction, your generous personal stories, your 42 words of wit and wonder.

You sensing a theme here? Yep, that’s right. Yeah write is all about the love–from our romance novel-inspired portraits to the celebration of sonnets for this month’s poetry slam. We love your contributions most of all. Join yeah write’s supportive community of writers who blog. Pour your heart into a creative challenge.

February Poetry Slam: Sonnets

So far, Rowan–yeah write submissions editor, poetry goddess, and super genius–has taught us how to write tritinas and centos. February’s Poetry Slam is all about sonnets. Don’t be squeamish! Rowan has written a great how-to here. Grab a cup of joe and find your sonnet mojo in the coffeehouse. (I know. That didn’t scan.)[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]

This week’s ultimate question: What’s that in the shadows?

Answer this question in exactly 42 words for the gargleblaster micro challenge, or use it to inspire your submission to the other competitive grids.

Tips for your microstories

This week’s question is in honor of that great North American mammal, the whistlepig, aka groundhog, whose unfair (who can live up to such expectations?) fate it is to tell us whether we will endure six more weeks of winter.  But please don’t write about groundhogs.

The question requires three things for a good answer: 1) a thing (physical or metaphorical); 2) at least one shadow (again, this can be real or metaphorical); and 3) the thing must be in the shadow(s). Please note that the verb tense of the answer must match the verb tense of the question. We aren’t looking for something in the past. What is in the shadows right now?[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]

Sweep us off our feet

Yeah write’s editors are fantasizing about a February full of your best prose and poetry.  Our avatars are inspired by romance novels to celebrate Valentine’s Day but you don’t need to write about love.  Just make us swoon![/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/1″][vc_images_carousel images=”23713,23717,23721,23724,23718,23723,23720,23712,23715,23722,23725,23719,23714,23716″ onclick=”link_image” custom_links_target=”_self” mode=”horizontal” speed=”2500″ slides_per_view=”4″ autoplay=”yes” hide_pagination_control=”yes” hide_prev_next_buttons=”” partial_view=”” wrap=”yes” img_size=”full”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]

Winners’ round-up

In case you missed them, you can find last week’s yeah write staff picks and crowd favorites all laid out for you on Friday’s winners’ post. Leave the winners some love in the comments. They will love you right back, we guarantee it.

The weekend’s not over: the moonshine grid is still open. Have something to add? Old posts and new are welcome. No moderation, no voting. It’s a laid-back relaxed kind of place. Drop by, share your work, and while you’re there, visit your fellow yeah writers.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]

How yeah write works

We’ve got three competitive challenge grids — nonfiction, fiction|poetry and microstories. They are all moderated. Submissions which do not meet our editorial guidelines will not be passed through to the voting grid.

You can learn more about yeah write in our FAQ.

More than just a weekly writing challenge

Sure, the competitive grids are our bread and butter, but there’s more on the menu. We’re building a community of writers who are continually striving to get better at their craft. The challenge grids are one way to do this. We’ve also got the moonshine weekend writing showcase, which is a great place to let loose and try something new, plus the yeah write coffeehouse — the hippest place on the ‘net to find a writing partner, talk about writing or just hang out with other yeah writers. Head barista Nate serves up a couple shots of espresso every week, specially formulated to get your creative juices flowing. Grab a chair and start chatting up your neighbors!
