what’s the value of yeah write?

When I stumbled upon yeah write during the 2012 summer series, I couldn’t even get on the challenge grid, which was very strictly monitored at the time (many of you will remember Flood’s awesome love letters). I found the 500-word limit restrictive and the “so what” elusive.  After a few weeks of editor feedback and my own stubborn resolve, I learned how to write a grid-worthy post that technically fit the guidelines, but typically placed near the bottom of the grid after the vote. Eventually, after hanging out enough, I worked my way up the grid, even winning editors’ picks and jury prizes on occasion. More recently, I won the popular vote for the first time. So what? My stories improved when I wrote the yeah write way. Not every post is a winner, of course. I’m still learning, as we all are. But yeah write made me a better blogger, one that can tell a story that people want to read.

the value’s also in the community

Maybe you’re an awesome writer already with great stories and amazing “so whats” that land you frequently in the top row 5 of the challenge grid. Go, you! Maybe you’re a stellar poet or a popular flash fiction writer at the speakeasy. You rock! Whether or not you have storytelling down, yeah write increases your exposure and provides a supportive community of friends. Real friends who celebrate your victories and pick you up when you’re down. So far, I’ve met four yeah writers in real life, and the instant connections after interacting so much in this community were amazing! This is the real stuff.

let’s keep this boat afloat

Yeah write doesn’t run on love. I mean, it does. But the reality is that there are still bills to pay, like our massive editor salaries. Kidding. All of the editors are volunteers who are supporting yeah write with our time and money. We have many wonderful supporting subscribers in addition to the editors and, for that, we thank you! But, yeah write is still in the red, and we’d love to break even. We don’t want to wreck our website with annoying ads. For that, we need help.

there are perks to subscribing

Ooooh, perks! Can you part with $5 to 10 dollars per month? It’s a trip or two to Starbucks. It’s making your lunch vs. eating out for a couple of days. It’s far less than a pedicure or a manscape. And it’s winter now, so maybe you can skip the personal grooming for a few months to keep yeah write afloat. You can subscribe one month at a time or change the quantity on the subscription form to 2-12 (or 1,000) months and pay a lump sum. Will $5/month break the bank? If so, we understand. Any amount per month, any one time donation, even just $1 will earn you a big sloppy wet kiss from your editor of choice.

But remember, there are perks beyond sloppy kisses for subscriptions of six months or greater at $5 and up.

Six-month subscription

If you subscribe to at least six months all at once for the minimum $5 each month (starting at $30 USD total), not only will you help keep your favorite blogging community afloat, you will receive at your request:

  • a wet and sloppy kiss on the mouth from your yeah write editor of choice
  • a text link in selected monthly sponsor highlight posts
  • a quick and dirty evaluation of approximately six planned submissions to the challenge grid, an average of one planned submission each month, before the weekly challenge grids open

12-month subscription

If you subscribe to 12 months all at once for the minimum $5 each month (starting at $60 USD total), not only will you help keep your favorite blogging community afloat, you will receive at your request:

  • a wet and sloppy kiss on the mouth from your yeah write editor of choice
  • a text link in selected monthly sponsor highlight posts
  • a custom editorial on one selected yeah write challenge grid entry (worth $40 USD)
  • a quick and dirty evaluation of 12 planned submissions to the challenge grid, an average of one planned submission each month, before the weekly challenge grids open

More than a year subscription

Can you subscribe for 13 months or longer at the minimum $5 each month (starting at $65 USD total)? Not only will you help keep your favorite blogging community afloat, you will receive at your request:

  • a wet and sloppy kiss on the mouth from your yeah write editor of choice
  • a text link in selected monthly sponsor highlight posts
  • a custom editorial on one selected yeah write challenge grid entry (worth $40 USD)
  • a quick and dirty evaluation of 12+ planned submissions to the challenge grid, an average of one planned submission each month, before the weekly challenge grids open

But, wait, there’s more: $10/mo. for at least 12 months

Become a supporting subscriber for at least $10 for 12 months (starting at $120 USD) and not only will you help keep your favorite blogging community afloat and not only will you receive upon request all the goodies listed above, but the yeah write editors will evaluate your blog itself on content and design and give you clear direction on what’s working and what can be improved.

How it works

This is a pay-what-you-can offering. You can pshaw the monthly subscription and make a one-time donation in any amount. Can you afford $50 a year? Click on the subscription form, change the default $5 amount to $50 and leave the month at 1. Too much? Is yeah write worth one dollar each month? Please donate a dollar a month for $12. Any amount is much appreciated. However, the editorials, evaluations and/or sponsor text links are reserved for supporting subscribers donating at least $30 in the same transaction.

Click this link and you will be directed to the yeah write E-junkie transaction page. The monthly subscription default is set for “quantity” 1 and “amount” 5.00. If you simply want to help with a one-time $5 donation, you’re ready. The yearly subscription default is also in your shopping cart. Remove the one you don’t want. Once you use one of the payment options, you’ll be an official yeah write supporting subscriber and you’ll be redirected to your Mail Chimp email subscriber form to update your information.

If you want to subscribe for several months at a time at the suggested minimum of $5, change the “quantity” number to any number of months of your choosing. If you’d like to pay $10 a month for, say, a 15-month subscription, change the “quantity” to 15 and “amount” to $10.

Thank you for your support

With enough supporting subscribers, yeah write will continue to help the smaller bloggers find their tribes and refine the art of online storytelling for years to come. If you’ve benefited in any way from the community here at yeah write—whether it was meeting your new best friend or introducing your blog to hundreds of readers—please consider keeping us afloat. We’ll be here for you as long as you are here for us.

Thank you from your yeah write editors.
