Day 23 NaBloPoMo at yeah write guest blogger: HA of How Anxious

1. If you find yourself sapless of the ideas to transform into words, that means it is time for you to open up the folder of your photography. And if you don’t have one such folder, then “google images” is always there for you [ed. note: be aware of copyright issues for protected works—ehm].  Go for a journey through the photographs of the most beautiful places in the world and the brilliant pieces of art and you will find one particular image that would make your heart bleed the words, you have so desired.

2. I am a lover of good music. My favorites include the hard rock, alternative rock, psychedelic, jazz, blues, etc., all from the 20th century. I don’t have much faith in the modern music sense. Everybody loves music; don’t you? So, gear up for a ride through the notes, tones, rhythm, lyrics of your favorite songs. Do sing along and gradually spill over your own words on a sheet of paper, crafting a story or a poem.

3. We sometimes feel as if the words are just not coming to us. We try to write but all the words seem so boring or over-used. A good idea to do at such times is to search for random word generators on google. There are many websites, I have come across which provide the service of generating random words from a vast dictionary. Pick up the words you like the best and adjoin them with your love and… Tada! You have written something good.

4. I started posting writing prompts every weekend on my blog. I used to give a certain topic or ask the writers to write something, based on a painting. I was not able to gather much attention and thus, I stopped posting them but there are so many bloggers today posting various kinds of prompts… you have a very good example in YeahWrite, and the idea of a blogging month is even more delightful. This way, you find yourself in midst of many other writers and bloggers and you get encouraged to do some writing of your own as well.

5. Reading exercises the mind and an exercised mind tends to be agile. If you are not inspired, just read the works of other writers. You may go for the established and popular ones, or you can read the works of the writers you know and are very much familiar with. They are the other bloggers’ you are connected with. So why not learn something from them? Ponder over their words, write a comment of what you thought about them, and then try to write, taking ideas from them and making them yours.

6. Observance is an essential quality for a writer. One can go for a walk, see people and their activities- analyze the colors of the sky, streets and buildings. Enjoy the warmth of the sun or the coolness of the air and afterwards, pick up a pen or start typing on the MS Word document.

7. You are tensed up, because you tried but couldn’t come up with anything good. And you are pressurizing yourself to carve a picture on the page, through your words. I would suggest- don’t be hard on yourself. If you are finding it difficult to write today and you have tried again and again, then just leave it for another day. Spend your time doing something else. And sit before your laptop/notebook the next day and try again. Giving oneself a break, in once a while, isn’t a bad idea.

8. Even if you are finding it hard to bring together anything of sense, still start and keep on writing anything and everything. Write… write and keep on writing, till when you are satisfied. Read your piece… if you find it good, that is amazing and if you don’t like it very much, then leave it for another day to work on. Store it somewhere and after 6 months or even a year, you may find it again and refine it or just use it as an inspiration to create a new piece. In simple words, every word you write will eventually come to a good use.

Those are some of the tactics that, I guess, would work for any one.  I want to thank the editors of YeahWrite for giving me this opportunity to write for you. My biggest worry was that I would make you guys bored. Please do tell me if that has been the case. 😀
