Back to business

After working together for many years, seven of the yeah write editors met in person for the first time at Long Beach Comic Con. Meeting kindred spirits is always a soul-warming process, and this time was no different. When you share a common interest that is so immersive–like writing–you often feel an strong connection. Though we all love yeah write and work hard to make it a welcoming community with a focus on quality writing, meeting in person and promoting our passion at LBCC was the culmination of years of dedicated volunteer work.

We believe in this community, which is why we work so hard to make it the best place for writers on the web. So if you’re new here, we’re so glad to have you. Leave a comment letting us know you stopped by. Jump on into one of our challenges, or look around and see what it’s about before dipping your toes in. If you’re already a member of our group, we are so glad you keep coming back, and appreciate what you bring to our community.

Though LBCC is over, we’re still riding high from all the excitement. In fact, we’ll be interviewing the author of The Only Living Boy, David Gallaher, in the coming week. Partner and illustrator Steve Ellis graciously provided illustrations as prizes for our on-site microstory contest, so make sure you check out their work.

Moderation returns September 20

Time to dust off your school supplies, as we’ll be back in session pretty soon. If you need to take a minute during study hall, review the submission guidelines before we hit the books.

Meet our members

Yeah write is a 100% volunteer run organization, and we couldn’t do what we do without the support of some amazing members. Why don’t you swing by and see who they are? While you’re there, give them a big thank you, or maybe a hug. And if you’re so inclined, consider becoming a member yourself.

What did you just destroy?

The optional prompt above can serve as inspiration for your fiction or poetry. Use the question word for word in your story or poem, or just answer it. Bombs or relationships are both welcome. Already have a different story thought up? No problem! Use the prompt only if you need it.

More inspiration

Need a bit more? For this month’s focus on fiction, we are embarking on the hero’s journey with the monomyth. In the poetry corner we’ll be exploring the Japanese art of tanka.

Still drawing a blank? You can also find writing exercises in the coffeehouse to get things started. You’ll notice we moved it to a Facebook group: much easier access and interact!

Is this your first time here?

Check out Sunday’s post which kicked off the week here at yeah write. If you don’t think you can remember to check back every Sunday, sign up for our email blasts. We send them directly to your inbox. No fuss!
