Welcome to the fiction and poetry challenge at yeah write

Much like most literature addicts, I have been binge reading the past week. I think I’ve clocked in four books since Christmas? All mysteries, and I devoured them one by one like Christmas cookies. When work gets busy and there’s not much time for reading, I get antsy, so indulging whenever I get a break is vital. After all, every writer will tell you that extensive reading is part of turning out superior writing, and for this writer, it also is a tool that keeps me from spontaneously combusting.

Speaking of spontaneously combusting, if you need a nudge to get your story or poem started this week, our optional prompt is:

What’s burning?

This optional prompt is to serve as your inspiration for your fiction or poetry. Use the question, word for word, in your story or poem, or just answer the question. After all, when there’s smoke…but you know how that saying ends. Already have your own story thought up? No problem! The prompt is only there if you need it.

Back to moderation

As it’s the holidays wind to a close, we’re going back to a moderated grid. In addition, there has been a change in the voting schedule: voting will now open one hour later, at 11 PM Eastern time on Wednesday, so we can ensure all submissions are reviewed before voting opens. Submissions will still close at 10 PM Eastern on Wednesday, and voting will still close at 10 PM Eastern time on Thursday.
